DIMITRIS POV Together, Lily and I stepped into my office. Ben, Luke, and Thara were already there, along with a short blonde women I assumed to be our witch. A little girl who looked just like her stood behind her, peering at me with a curious expression. Every pair of eyes except the two zeroed in our joined hands, then simultaneously went to Lily and Iâs new marks. The room was dead silent for a one heartbeat. Then-
âAhhh!â My sister sqealed and rushed us, enveleoping us in a tight hug. My Beta and Gamma jumped slightly and the women and girl looked at her like she was crazy. âFinally! I am so happy for you guys!â
âThanks Thara.â Lily patted her back.
Releasing us, Thara pointed a finger at me. âYou better have a re-do on your wedding. Her Luna ceremony doesnât count! I want the chance to stand at the altar with my sister-in-law.â
I rubbed the back of neck. âIâll think about it.â
âWhat is going on?â The witch whispered to Ben.
âIâll explain later.â He told her. He then stepped around mys siter to give me a bro-hug. âCongrats man. Iâm happy for you.â
âMe too. Took long enough.â Luke said from behind him.
âCan we get on with business please?â I asked eagerly. I was unbelievably happy that I finally got to be with my mate, but my friends, and especially my sister, were known for being nosy. They would undoubtedly want details of what happened between us to lead us being together at last, but there were more pressing matters to be dealt with. And, there was a child in the room.
âI think thatâs a good idea.â Lily said, squeezing my hand.
âFine.â Thara rolled her eyes.
I sat down at my desk, pulling Lily with me. She perched on my lap, my arms going around her waist. Everyone gawked at us until I cleared my throat.
âBen?â
âRight. Everyone, this is Clara Whitethorn, and her daughter, Isabelle. Clara, Isabelle, this is our Alpha Dimitri, his Luna and mate, Lily, and our Gamma Luke.â
âAhem!â
âAnd thatâs Dimitris sister, Thara. Though Iâm not sure why sheâs even here. Shouldnât you be at work?â He asked her.
Thara shrugged. âIâm allowed to take days off. And Iâm part of the Alpha family, I have a right to be here too.â
âWhatever.â Now Ben rolled his eyes. He seemed to be on edge.
I ignored them, turning to Clara. âWelcome to B***d Moon. Thank you for agreeing to come.â
âI didnât have much choice.â She scowled at Ben, who paled. I looked between them, confusion knawing at me.
âWhat do you mean by that?â I asked.
She glanced down at her daughter, pressing her lips together.
âIsabelle, wasnât it?â Lily untangled herself from me, going to kneel in front of the girl. I saw Clara tense. âWe have a terrific game room in the packhouse. Would you like to see it?â
âI donât-â Clara began.
âOkay!â Isabelle exclaimed. She took Lilys hand as she stood up.
âIâll have some of warriors watch over here. Please, donât worry.â Lily said gently to Clara. Finally, she relented. âIâll be right back.â
Watching the way she smiled at the little girl, the way Isabelle immediatly warmed up to her made my heart flutter. I couldnât wait to have my own pups with her; Lily was going to make an amazing mother.
âWill she be safe?â Clara looked at Ben, eyes wide with worry.
âCompletely. Our warriors are the very best. Nobody will touch her.â
My Beta had a look on his face that I couldnât really place. He was usually the joker amongst us, always happy; Right now he was unusually tense. Part of me acknowledged that he was just as concerned for Isabelle as her mother.
âIs there something I should know? I asked the two of them. âAbout Isabelle?â
âWhat are you implying?â Clara glared at me.
âIs she a witch?â
âObviously.â
âIs she dangerous?â
Clara looked ready to explode. âThere is nothing wrong with my daughter!â She yelled at me. Ajax growled in my head.
âHe didnât mean that Clara.â Ben put his hand on her shoulder, effectively calming her down.
âOkay, what is going on?â Luke was looking between our friend and the witch, over and over. Suddenly, his eyes widened, jaw dropping. âNoâ¦â
Ben paled even more. âYup.â
âItâs not possible!â
âWell, obviously, it is.â Ben huffed.
âSomeone want to include me in the loop?â I asked, annoyed.
âOh for f***s sake.â Clara threw her hands up. âHeâs my mate. There, I said it.â
My eyebrows shot up so high, they all but disappeared into my hair.
âWhat?â
âItâs true.â Ben said. âSheâs my mate.â
I shook my head, trying to make sense of their words. âBut sheâs a witchâ¦â
âThank you, Captain Obvious.â Clara sneered.
The snarky remark was lost on me, I was in too much shock. How was this possible?
âWhatâd I miss?â Lily came waltzing back into the room, stopping to take in our expressions and the tense atmosphere. âWhat happened?â
âBen found his mate.â Thara said quietly. Iâd almost forgotten she was here.
âReally? Who is it?â Lily looked excitedly at Ben, who was looking at Clara, who was looking at the wall angrily. Connecting the dots, my mate did what none of us expected. As usual.
âThatâs amazing!â She gushed as she hugged Ben around the waist.
Clara spun around, only to be tackled by Lily in a giant hug. The anger on her face was replaced by surprise with a hint of uncertainty. Probably regarding Lilys mental health.
âIsnât it?!â Lily looked around the room. âGuys?â
âUhmâ¦â Luke seemed at a loss for words.
âSure, why not?â Thara said.
Lily looked to Ben. âAre you not happy?â She asked him.
âI⦠uhâ¦â He stuttered and Clara and Lilys faces fell.
âThatâs definitely not the right answer.â My sister scoffed.
âIâm just⦠still trying to process it.â He blew out a breath. âItâs complicated.â
âYou can say that again.â Clara said.
I held up my hands. âOkay, why donât we put thisâ¦develpment aside for now? Thereâs other things we need to talk about.â
âSounds good.â Ben said and Clara threw him a dirty look.
I looked at her. âIâm assuming he told you about why we needed you to come here?â
She nodded. âIâm afraid I canât help you.â
I blinked at her. âThen why did you agree to come?â
âLike I said, I didnât have a choice.â She glanced at her mate. âWeâre not like you, witches. If we reject our mate, we lose our magic. Itâs a punishment for rejecting the bond, a gift from the Goddess. Besides that, witches have a much harder time than wolves do staying away from their mates. Itâs painful and it effects our abilities.â
Huh. Interesting. By the look on Lukes face, he thought so too. Iâd have to keep him from interrogating Clara about her species; I really didnât want her to turn him into a toad or something.
âIs there anything you can do to help us?â I asked.
âBen said you think youâre dealing with a Clan Elder. If thatâs true, there is nothing I can do. My magic is nowhere near that strong.â
âGreat.â I sighed in frustration.
âSo, we just find another witch.â Thara piped in.
âThereâs no point. Only another Clan Elder would be powerful enough to help you, and you know as well as I do they wonât even consider it. If my situation wasnât what it is, I wouldnât have even come here.â
Ben flicnhed at her words, hurt passing over his face.
âThere has to be a way to get to him.â Lily drummed her fingers on my desk, thinking.
Clara turned to her. âHim? You know which Elder it is?â
Lily shook her head. âWe only know his name. Gideon.â
Confusion swept over Claras face. âThere is no Elder Gideon.â
âWhat?â Luke, Lily and I asked in unison.
âThere are four Elders, Cidion, Alyssia, Tate and Rythe. Theyâve been in power for a long time, since before I was born.â
I looked at Luke for answers.
âI donât know. I thought for sureâ¦â
âWhy did you think it was an Elder?â Clara asked him. He told her about James disappearence from the dungeon.
âAh. He is very powerful then. Just like you, we do have our handful of rogues. Witches who are not part of any Clan, who live by themselves. Unlike wolves, however, not all the rogues are bad. We retain our humanity, even though we live seperate from the others. That being said, not all of them are good either.â
âYou talk like youâre one of them.â I commented.
âI am. I am not part of any of the four Clans. It is just my daughter and I.â
âMay I ask why?â Lily asked her.
âNo, you may not.â Clara snapped. I growled at her disrespect towards my mate, though it didnât seem to effect her. âIt sounds like you are dealing with a Dark Witch, someone who specializes in using the Dark Arts. And my guess would be they are after you because youâre a Mother Wolf.â
