Su Qingsang stopped at the top of the stairs. Old Master Huo also saw Xu Ruoli, who had already stood up.
âGrandpa Huo.â
âYouâre here, girl.â He waved his hand and signaled her to sit down. âSit down and make yourself at home.â
âThank you, Grandpa Huo.â
Old Master Huo sat down on the sofa. Seeing Su Qingsang standing there motionlessly, he stretched out a hand to her. âQingsang, come and sit down.â
Su Qingsang rubbed her nose and finally went to Old Master Huo. She sat down beside him. She had forgotten to put the box away and was still holding it in her hand.
When Liu Tongjia saw the box, her face changed and she could not help but look at Old Master Huo.
âDad,â Liu Tongjia said as she met Old Master Huoâs eyes. Her voice was very light, but there was a bit of surprise and unwillingness in her tone.
âThat bracelet belonged to Mother, didnât it?â
Old Master Huo nodded. âYes, she left it.â
âWhy is it in her hand?â
Su Qingsang was confused when the topic of the conversation unexpectedly fell on her. Did this bracelet have some special meaning?
âJinyao married her. Itâs hers of course.â
âButââ Liu Tongjiaâs face became quite sour. âHow can it be hers? How does she deserve it?â
Every word she said was very light, yet full of strong dissatisfaction if you listened carefully.
âI donât see why she doesnât deserve it.â Old Master Huo defended her. âShe is now Jinyaoâs wife. Why doesnât she deserve it?â
âThis is meant for the eldest daughter-in-law. I wasââ Liu Tongjia paused for a moment. Then, she looked at Old Master Huo. âAnyway, itâs not hers,â she said.
Su Qingsang became a little embarrassed and the box in her hand started to feel very hotâshe did not know whether to take it or not.
Xu Ruoli was sitting there silently as she watched this scene play out.
âTongjia, I know what you are thinking. You donât think she is good enough for Jinyao, but now they are married. I think she is good enough.â
âDad.â Liu Tongjia became extremely sour. âWe still have a guest here. What are you talking about?â
âNothing. The Xu girl happens to be here now, so she can know my attitudde. Ruoli, you are good, very good. It seems, however, you two are not meant to be. I believe you are a good girl and you have a bright future. The old engagement, forget it.â
Xu Ruoli hadnât expected Old Master Huo to say this so directly. She became completely pale.
âGrandpa Huo, Iââ
âIâm old and I donât have many years to live. Life and death are not so important to me anymore. I just want you young kids to be happy. That goes for everybody.â
Su Qingsang couldnât help but give Old Master Huo a look of admiration. He was very wise to have such a clear understanding of life; too many people simply just couldnât see it as he did. There were few who could be as sanguine as Old Master Huo.
âGrandpa Huo,â Xu Ruoli seemed to finally find her voice. âWhat are you talking about? I came here today to visit Aunt Huo. We havenât seen each other for a long time after all and Aunt Huo is always taking care of me.â
âMmm, I know you are a good girl. I havenât seen you for a long time, either. Stay here for dinner.â
âThank you, Grandpa Huo.â
Xu Ruoli nodded and looked at Su Qingsang subconsciously. Su Qingsang smiled awkwardly. So this meant that this woman had given up?n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
