After clearing the A-rank dungeon and returning home, I spent my days practically fused with the couch.
Honestly, this couch was more comfortable than any bed Iâd seen in that other world.
When Si-Yoon asked if I found it uncomfortable, I couldnât help but wonder if buying a bed was even necessary.
I mean, it might be a different story once we move to a new place,
but for now, Iâm perfectly satisfied with this.
As I was, once again, watching a livestream of V-tuber Momobin on TV,
the doorbell rang, and when I checked, it was Ji-Ah.
Oh, right. She did message me that sheâd be coming over for dinner tonight.
Iâd forgotten while I was so engrossed in the stream.
âHey!â
âWelcome!â
As we walked into the living room together, Ji-Ahâs gaze drifted to the TV.
ãAaaargh...ã
There was Momo, back at square one in the game again.
Iâd been cheering her on, but she still didnât seem close to finishing it.
Taking a seat on the couch, I glanced at Ji-Ahâs expression.
She was still watching the TV. Hmm...
âSo⦠should I change it? Anything youâd like to watch?â
âNo, itâs fine. I watch her sometimes, too.â
ââ¦! Really? For real?â
âYes.â
I was genuinely surprised.
I never imagined Ji-Ah would also be a fan of Momo.
I hadnât expected to find a fellow fan so close by.
My embarrassment disappeared, replaced by a rush of excitement.
âHehe⦠Isnât Momo just the cutest?â
âOh my.â
Ji-Ah covered her mouth with a smile.
That was definitely a sign of agreement, right?
âI like Momo more than the big-name streamers. She should be way more popular.â
âDoes it bother you?â
âOf course! Good things are meant to be shared.â
ãWhy wonât this workâ¦?ã
On screen, Momo let out another frustrated sigh.
Back to the starting village, again. Poor thing.
Ji-Ah chuckled softly.
Meanwhile, I pulled out my phone to check the chat.
ãUghâ¦ã
- LOL
- Hahaha
- Back to square one
- Time wasted, lol
- hahahahaha
I joined in.
- (rip in happiness)
ãAaargh!ã
Watching Momo struggling was, as always, so entertaining.
When I looked back up, Ji-Ah spoke up.
âSi-Yoonâs working, right?â
âYeah, she made me promise not to disturb her. Absolutely no entry.â
âHehe, of course.â
Ji-Ah gave a playful smile.
When I looked at her questioningly, she just shrugged it off.
Then, she started unpacking the things sheâd brought and putting them in the fridge.
It was various types of alcohol.
âDrinks?â
âOh, did I not tell you? We planned to have a drink together.â
ââ¦I didnât hear about it.â
âAh, I only mentioned it to Si-Yoon, I guess. Still, you used to enjoy drinking, right?â
âYeah.â
It wasnât that I disliked itâmy tolerance had just dropped.
âWhen was the last time you drank?â
âWith someone recently. About two or three beers, and that was my limit. Any more, and Iâd probably black out.â
âWow, youâve really become a lightweight compared to before.â
ââ¦Iâll build it back up.â
Everyone starts out light, right?
Itâll come back with time and practice, surely.
While I was firming up my resolve, Ji-Ah had already finished putting things away and was settling into the couch.
âOh, by the way, Si-Hyun. Do you know Manager Jang Han-Soo in the administrative department?â
âYeah, I know him.â
âI met with him today. During our conversation, I realized a few things.â
ââ¦?â
Ji-Ah looked at me intently.
After a moment of silence, she spoke.
âYouâre planning to keep things under wraps, like now, right?â
âYeah⦠for the time being?â
âGot it. Then, keep a few things in mind.â
âHmm?â
When I tilted my head in confusion, Ji-Ah raised one finger.
âFirst, using the Hunter app logs everythingâevery dungeon you clear is recorded.â
ââ¦Hmm?â
âThat includes how often you go and who you go with.â
ââ¦Ah, right! I hadnât even thought about that partâ¦â
âItâs understandable. Youâve only been back a short while, so itâs natural to overlook things like that.â
Iâd thought I was being discreet, but apparently, it hadnât gone unnoticed.
That explains why Manager Jang had been extra helpful with advice.
âSo⦠how much do they know about me?â
âYouâve done a good job staying under the radar.â
âReally?!â
I blurted out, surprised, and Ji-Ah smiled.
âThey suspect youâre not ordinary, but they donât know any details.â
âOh, I see.â
âHe hasnât reported anything specific to his higher-ups either. So, youâre safe.â
âWowâ¦â
It was good news.
My trust in Manager Jang went up a notch.
While I nodded, Ji-Ah raised a second finger.
âNext, Si-Hyun, how much do you know about online communities?â
âHere and there?â
âHave you seen anything about a mysterious person in a nunâs habit showing up at the A-rank gate?â
ââ¦No.â
Now that she mentioned it, I hadnât seen anything like that.
Even if they didnât know it was me, youâd expect posts like, âMystery Nun Enters Gate!â
âWell, Manager Jang covered that up within his authority.â
âWowâ¦â
Another point for Manager Jang.
He might be a better person than I thought.
Next time he calls, I should answer promptly.
Thank you, Manager Jang.
âHe asked me to tell you that heâll respect your wishes but hopes youâll stay in Korea.â
âHuh? Of course, Iâm staying in Korea. I am Korean, after all.â
âHe probably said that because heâs a bit of a protective older brother type.â
ââ¦â
No need to phrase it like that; it sounds odd.
I just happen to have a strong sibling bond.
âHehe, no offense intended. By the way, why not ask him to assign you a D-rank? Just a thought.â
âIs that even possible?â
âThe Bureauâs surprisingly flexible. They might make an exception.â
âHmmâ¦â
âOr I could ask for you.â
Letting her do itâ¦
It wasnât a bad suggestion, honestly.
âNo, Iâll handle it myself if I decide to.â
âHehe, fair enough. Good call.â
Ji-Ah nodded approvingly.
At that moment, we heard the door open, and Si-Yoon walked into the living room.
âUnnie, youâre here?â
âYeah. If youâre done working, should we order something to eat?â
Si-Yoon nodded and plopped down on the floor.
Momobinâs livestream had ended by then, so I handed her the remote.
ââ¦Unnie.â
âHmm? Whatâs up?â
âWere you watching Momoâs stream with Ji-Ah?â
âYeah. Turns out Ji-Ah watches her, too.â
âHaahâ¦â
Si-Yoon let out a deep sigh.
She must be exhausted.
âItâs too much happiness at onceâ¦â
ââ¦?â
Somehow, that sounded familiar.
Hmm⦠I canât quite place it. Maybe itâs just my imagination.
âOh, how about this?â
âLet me see.â
When Ji-Ah held out her phone, Si-Yoon leaned in eagerly.
I decided to leave the menu selection to them and leaned back on the couch to relax.
âThink Unnie can handle this?â
âIs it too spicy?â
ââ¦â
Wait, what are they looking at?
âWhat are you two considering?â
âFried stuff! And weâre thinking about ordering tteokbokki, too.â
Si-Yoon answered energetically.
Tteokbokki? Not a bad choice.
âOrder it as spicy as you like.â
âReally? Youâre sure? You wonât regret it?â
âI can handle fried udon now, you know.â
Iâve been working on training my taste buds daily.
Donât underestimate me.
âTrue, but youâll just heal yourself with that holy power or whatever if you struggle. Itâs a cheat.â
âHey, call it the spirit of resilience.â
âRight, right. Very impressive! Now, drink some milk to start with.â
ââ¦Fine.â
Even if her praise felt half-hearted,
I took her advice and started with a small carton of milk.
After a short while, it seemed like the order was complete, and Ji-Ah and Si-Yoon were chatting happily.
I sat on the couch, listening to their conversation.
Before long, the food arrived.
They arranged the dishes neatly on the table.
When Ji-Ah went to the fridge, she called out.
âIâm going to have some sake. What about you two?â
âOh
? You bought that too?â
âI saw it at the store and couldnât resist.â
She held up a round, dark bottle, giving it a little shake to show us.
Junmai Daiginjo?
Iâd only ever had beer and soju, so I wasnât quite sure what it was.
âGuess Iâll give it a try.â
âHehe, if you donât like it, you can switch to beer. Just give it a taste.â
Ji-Ah placed the bottle on the table.
I glanced at the label; it said 16.5% alcohol content.
âThatâs not too high, is it?â
âItâs like a Japanese rice wine.â
âOh, got it.â
Si-Yoon quickly set out some glasses.
Ji-Ah poured drinks for all three of us.
âCheers!â
We each took a sip.
Hmm⦠it was both sour and sweet, mingling together.
Not bad.
âSeems like you enjoyed it?â
âYeah? Oh, yeah. I like it. Iâll probably have it again if I see it around.â
Itâs nice to change things up once in a while.
I took another sip, savoring the warmth of the alcohol spreading through me.
I really did like this feeling. Â @@novelbin@@
As I contentedly examined my glass, I looked up.
Si-Yoon was eagerly chatting with Ji-Ah.
âUnnie, youâre so famous now! What are you going to do next?â
âWhat do you mean?â
âLike joining a big guild! Or teaming up with other famous Hunters?â
âOh, that.â
Ji-Ah nodded thoughtfully in response to Si-Yoonâs question.
âIâm just going to keep working like I have been. Taking jobs from the Bureau, like a semi-government agent.â
âWhy? Is there a reason you have to?â
âHmmâ¦â
When Si-Yoon pressed for a reason, Ji-Ahâs gaze shifted in my direction.
Her cheeks were slightly flushed, maybe from the alcohol.
Then she looked back at Si-Yoon and said,
âWorking with people I donât get along with constantly would be exhausting.â
âYeah, I get that.â
âUntil I find someone I can really rely on, Iâll probably keep working solo.â
âOh!â
Si-Yoon nodded vigorously in understanding.
Then she turned to me.
âWhen are you moving out?â
ââ¦!â
âOh, no! Donât look at me like that! I didnât mean it badlyâ¦â
She fidgeted with her fingers as she continued.
âItâs just⦠you always sleep on the couch, and it seems uncomfortableâ¦â
âThis couch is seriously amazing. Why doesnât anyone appreciate it?â
ââ¦Fine.â
Si-Yoon shook her head, taking another swig of her drink.
Watching her, Ji-Ah chuckled softly.
âBy the way, Si-Hyun.â
âYeah?â
âAre you free tomorrow?â
âIâve got nothing but time. Why?â
When I replied, Ji-Ah smiled and clasped her hands in front of her chest.
âWell, I have to visit the Academy to see the director. Would you like to keep me company? Itâs a bit lonely going alone.â
âHmm⦠I donât need to do anything, right?â
âOf course not! Just think of it as a day out.â
âIn that case, sure.â
Pleased with my answer, Ji-Ah gave a bright smile.
Iâd heard so much about the Academy here and there.
It wouldnât hurt to finally see what itâs like.
âAnother toast?â
âSure.â
âCheers!â
With Ji-Ahâs words, we all raised our glasses.
Drinking with friends was, as always, a warm, happy time.
âCough, cough!â
âOh, Unnie! Here, water!â
And the tteokbokki was spicy.
D-damn itâ¦
