My phone goes off while waiting for the guys at the diner. There’s a message in the group chat I have with Roman and Jace. Is one of them standing me up?

It’s our thing. Every Friday after school is Annie’s Diner. Yeah, okay, we’re on summer break for a few more days, but still. I don’t want them to bail on me. I need this.

I open the message, and my mouth goes dry.

Four words. Just four simple words. But they hold a much greater meaning to the three of us.
