âWhy donât we use the prettiest blooming roses from the garden and on itâs stalk tie a note that states only the time and location as the invite? It will seem very mysterious. We will have someone deliver the invitation individually to the ladies.â
âOh! That sounds like a great idea. Iâm sure the ladies will have fun.â
âThen as for the person who is delivering the inviteâ¦.letâs pick the most handsome member of the staff. Anyone in mind?â
Lunia chuckled. âAmongst the members of the staff?â
âYes. Iâm sure you have someone youâve always considered âgood lookingâ.â
Roman and Lunia glanced at each other. âWhat about Gen?â
Amethystâ eyes widened in surprise. Gen? She nodded. He is always overshadowed in the company of Alexcent and is always by his side, and always busy. But I guess Gen is pretty popular with the ladies regarding his look. Not too bad. Dark hair, cat-like eyes, sharp noseâ¦
âNow that I think about it⦠itâs a very good idea.â
âBut there is a problem, Madam.â
âWhat?â
âGen might not agree to something like this.â
âOh.â
âThatâs right,â said Roman, âHe is always so busy, and I donât think he will agree to laying this part at all.â
âHm,â mumbled Amethyst, deep in thought. Gen will obviously not agree to it. He is much to uppity for his own good. But I have a wayâ¦
âDonât worry about that,â assured Amethyst, âTell him that I said it is time to return the favor.â
âReally?â
âYes. He will know what I am getting at.â
âGen and flowers,â said Lunia, gleefully, âI will not let him hear the end of it, ever.â
âBut please doll Gen up. In a rich noble kind of way. Tell him to wear a cape.â
âYes, understood.â
Lunia left the room with a large grin on her face to carry out the preparation. There wasnât much time left to prepare for the tea party that was to be held tomorrow.

Tired of the long continuous meetings, the head of the households were taking a break.
Count Onslow, Count Citri and Baron Houres puffed cigars, while Baron Zephyr was lying down on a sofa. The hangover from the day before was still fresh.
Count Glacia, on the other hand, returned to her room to rest, unlike the gentlemen. Her maid appeared before her with a young maid by her side.
âMy Lady,â intoned her maid.
âSo, is this the child?â asked Count Glacia.
âYes, My Lady.â
Her maid looked at the young maid by her side. âGreetings Count Glacia,â said the timid, young maid.
âSo, you serve the Lady Skad?â
âYes, My Lady,â said the young maid, âAlong with two others.â
âWhatâs your name?â asked Count Glacia gently.
âHabe.â
âWhat a pretty name!â
âThank you, My Lady.â
âThe reason why I called you here todayâ¦is because I have a small favor to ask,â said Count Glacia, âWill you be able to help me?â
âHow may I be of service, My Lady?â
âItâs nothing very difficult. I want you to be my eyes and ears.â
âI am just a mere maid,â said Habe, âHow can I be what you expect of me?â
Count Glacia took Habeâs trembling hands in hers. âYou will be of great help to me, child,â said Count Glacia, âI just need information. I want you to report to me.â
âInformation⦠related to lady Skad?â asked Habe.
âYou are smart!â said Count Glacia, âI like you. So, can you help me then? Nothing very big. Small tidbits of information.â
Habe hesitated. She had always been jealous of Roman. Roman used to be a mere maid like her but she had earned the favor of Lady Skad and now was the manager of the household. It should have been her! But no matter how she thought about this offer, she felt like it would be disloyal and dishonest to the ones she served.
âWill it pose any harm to the Lady?â asked Habe, terrified.
âYou really are loyal. No wonder she has you by her side,â said Count Glacia, âBut donât worry. Nothing of that sort will happen. The only information I seek are minor ones. What is the lady doing now?â
âShe is currently discussing preparation of tomorrowâs tea party with Lunia.â
âSee? Easy. Thatâs the kind of information that I want. Just small everyday things. So, will you do it?â
âIf it is⦠just small things, I think I could.â
âGreat!â said Count Glacia as she took of her jeweled necklace that she wore and put it on Habeâs neck. âA gift.â
âBut I couldnât possiblyâ¦.â
âNonsense,â said Count Glacia, âIt rather suits you. This is a gift for being so loyal to Lady Skad. All of us need a loyal friend like you.â She steered Habe to the mirror. âSee? Doesnât it suit you?â
âBut this is too much.â
âBosh,â said Count Glacia, âNo more precious than your loyalty.â
âSo, where is Lady Skad holding the tea party?â
âThe glass house, I heard.â
âI see. Then they will need to decorate the glass houseâ¦â
âI heard they will be decorating it with flowers.â
âOnly flowers?â
âYes, Lunia will soon be calling a merchant to order the flowers.â.
âHabe, will you then do me a small favour?â
âOf course, My Lady.â
âCould you find out what is Lady Skadâs favourite flower for me?â
Habe had a bad feeling about all of it when Count Glacia asked for a âfavorâ. Â But she wasnât in a position to decline anything that came from a powerful person. She was only a maid. Since Count Glacia had so adamantly handed her the necklace even after her protests, she felt terrified. The favor, for now, seemed small enough.
âYes, of course!

âWhat rubbish are you gibbering?â asked Gen, sharply.
âItâs not rubbish,â said Lunia, wearily, âYour rudeness knows no bounds. Madam wants you to deliver the invitations.â
âDo what now?!â thundered Gen, âAnd that too carrying flowers in that foolish attire? No way in hell.â
âMadam has requested it. That you, specifically, send out the invites to the ladies. And what do you mean âfoolishâ? It would look good on you. Itâs a nice outfit.â
âAre you out of your minuscule mind?â shot Gen.
