Walking towards the merchantâs weapon stand, there was a long line of adventurers waiting to buy weapons, while some were still browsing the cart.
âWeird, why do they only have these junk weapons on display when they have much better magical weapons in the crates?â Jay wondered as he looked at the rugged weapons currently on display. Jay noticed the top-knot guy was looking at him, but he then immediately looked away, pretending not to recognise Jay.
Shrugging, Jay thought about what to buy âHmm, I need a new dagger⦠but I will have Anya with me and she can launch bolts while I can just have one of my minions to do the damage. Maybe I can just fight passivelyâ¦â
Jay studied the weapons as his eyes drifted away from the dagger.
âI know! Iâll get a shield. That way I can protect Anya so she can do even more damage, and if she doesnât like it, she can just loan me a daggerâ A mischievous grin appeared on Jayâs face when he thought about manipulating Anya into loaning him the dagger.
âAnd I suppose if things get really bad, I can just re-summon the other two Donâsâ.
With resolve, Jay stepped into the queue to buy a shield.
As Jay approached the merchant, he was still wondering why there was only trash weapons on display.
âHmmâ¦â a smug grin appeared on Jayâs face as he went to order, while he watched the other adventurerâs buying the low quality weapons..
âIâll take one of those shields pleaseâ he pointed to an iron buckler, which looked like it had taken itâs fair share of beatings in itâs lifespan.
âSureâ Bertram smiled as he rubbed his hands. âThat will be 30 goldâ.
â30 gold huh? Seems quite steep for a worn out shield.â
âHa! Thatâs the price, boy. If you donât like it, find another weapons merchantâ Bertram said as he laughed at Jay, knowing there were no other weapon merchants in town.
âFor 30 gold I thought you would be selling me one of those magical weapons you have in the backâ.
Bertramâs smile disappeared, replaced by a cold sweat. ââ¦You know, now that you put it that way,â he looked around, making sure no one heard him as he spoke more softly âIâll drop it to 15â¦â
Smiling, Jay stuck out his hand âYou got a deal.â
Bertram didnât even shake his hand as he gave Jay the buckler, while Jay passed him the gold.
âHow the hell did he find out about the other weaponsâ¦â Thought Bertram as he squinted at Jay. âBy the way, itâs not a shield, itâs a buckler. Learn the difference, boy.â
Jay waved with the back of his hand as he walked off, analysing the shield.
[Old Buckler]
[Defence â 15]
[Skill â Block] (Passive)
[Block â Negate 100% damage from an attack. 15% chance.]
âHmm, not bad for 15 gold.â Thought Jay as he stashed the shield in his inventory. Looking around, he noticed some of the other adventurers werenât too happy with their overpriced crappy weapons.
âSucks to be them.â Jay thought as he chuckled and began walking to his home. âIâll pick up some more bondtussle root and food supplies before meeting Anya.â
He decided to make his visit quick as he got home. He refilled his water bottle, then grabbing some bondtussle root and stashing it in his inventory, he decided to get some mist-sheep jerky too â licking his lips as he said âHope she doesnât think Iâm gonna share.â
It wasnât long before he left his house and made his way to the bridge.
â
Looking across the crowd, Matheson spotted a level three ranger, finding someone to join his party.
âYou! Trenly! Youâre going to join me, or else!â the noble brat said to the level three ranger.
Sadly, Trenly didnât have a choice. ââ¦ok Matheson.â He immediately lost his excitement.
âGood. As a reward, I will loan you a bow to use from my private collection. Itâs much stronger than whatever you will have now.â said Matheson with pompousness.
âThanksâ Trenly said emotionlessly as he knew he was not allowed to voice his dissatisfaction to the local lord âat least I can try a better bowâ he thought, trying to cheer himself up.
âNow, we just need a manacrafter..â said Matheson as he walked towards a level two manacrafter, but before he could reach one, the manacraft trainer noticed what Matheson was doing and spoke into his mind.
âYou will not force a manacrafter to join you. They will choose which duo they would like to join. If you try, I will prohibit your participation in the event.â
Mathesonâs face scrunched up in anger, âBastardâ he thought as he death-stared at the manacraft trainer.
â
The more curious local villagers were outside their houses, watching the new recruits with joyful smiles as they made their way to the bridge.
When Jay arrived, he wandered through the large crowd of recruits to find Anya enjoying a muffin. âHuh, I guess sheâs got a soft side after all.â Jay smiled mischievously, thinking she was kind of cute.
âHeyâ he said.
âHi. Not long now.â She said, watching the class trainers as she finished her raisin muffin.
âSeems like she doesnât want to make conversation..â Jay thought.
He looked around at the other adventurers, all their faces full of excitement. Some were showing off their weapons, while others were showing their skills â one of the manacrafters was even floating above the crowd in a cross-legged position.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
Jay tried to play it cool, acting like he wasnât excited by this event â Anya looked like she was bored, just another morning to her.
After the stream of adventurers joining the crowd slowed to a trickle, the captain, Michael, yelled out to them in a large voice.
âRecruits, you know the plan! We will make our way to the dungeon and you will enter it. Weâre here to guide you to it â nothing more, nothing less. Move out!â
The captain led the way as a four-hundred strong mass of adventurers followed him.
Walking through the cold winter forest, the excited adventurers all moved though, chatting away and laughing together which actually made the forest feel quite warm; though the class trainers all had serious expressions on their faces.
âDo they ever relax?â Jay wondered.
Before long, they were at the dungeon. Everyone was amazed by the dungeon entrance â it was a flat black stone that had a glowing red ring in the middle. Above everyoneâs head floated a larger glowing yellow ring which was about the diameter of a guard tower.
âStand in the red circle and you will be able to enter the dungeon.â a trainer said.
With some hesitation, the adventurers started to enter the dungeon.
âLetâs go.â said Anya as she glanced at Jay.
