âIn that case, leave Emmeline here,â Oscar negotiated with a quirked brow, âand Iâll pretend today never happened.â
âYeah, right!â Abel sneered. âEmma is the mother of my four children and my beloved woman. How can I turn a blind eye and abandon her?â
âI promise you,â Oscarâs gaze deepened as he spoke. âIf you hand over Emmeline, the position of Ryker Groupâs CEO will still be yours. You can choose to marry any prestigious lady, even the ones abroad. I wonât interfere.â
âIâm not interested!â Abel declared firmly. âEmma is mine for this lifetime and beyond. Iâll never let her go.â
Emmelineâs hand, held tightly by him, trembled, and tears blurred her vision.
âI wonât leave Abel, Old Mr. Ryker.â She looked up. âI just want you to know that the power and influence of the Adelmar Clan are on par with the Ryker Group, if not greater. My master wonât overlook what you want to do to me.â
âYouâre not scaring me with Adelmar!â Oscar raised his brows. âMy eldest son died because of him, and today, I want revenge for the past. I wonât bother with anything else.â
âKilling me might be easy for you.â Emmelineâs gaze turned icy. âBut have you ever considered how Timothy, Helios, Endymion, and Hesperus will view you? Unless you kill all four of my sons, they will seek vengeance for me one day!â
Oscar stumbled slightly upon hearing Emmelineâs warning. His four great-grandchildren were his treasures, an extension of the Ryker familyâs bloodline and his pride. If one day they turned against him, he might as well be dead. Even if he died before they grew up, he believed they would dig him out of his grave. This couldnât happen, absolutely not!
Thud! Oscar plopped down into his chair. He was, after all, an eighty-year-old man, and sitting down made him realize just how tired his legs were and how weak he felt.
âGrandfather,â Emmeline spoke up. âThe feuds of the past generation canât be changed. My marriage to Abel and the birth of our sons were all fate. Thatâs why Iâm asking you to let go of your grudge against the Adelmar Clan to make peace. I will thank you on behalf of my master.â
âItâs too late!â Oscar declared. âMy eldest son is already dead, and it was because of Robert Adelmar.
He died by my hands, and I will never swallow this indignation for the rest of my life!â
His eldest son died by his hands? This revelation left everyone stunned, even the guards by the door.
âDad,â Lewis asked cautiously. âWhat exactly happened?â
âI donât want to bring it up again,â Oscar said and pointed at Emmeline. âI can let you go, but you must go far away and never return. Abel and the four children are members of the Ryker family. They must stay!â
âI wonât be separated from my wife and children!â Abel insisted to Oscar as he held Emmelineâs hand.
âPlease let our family leave together!â
âImpossible!â Oscar glared. âThe boys are my great-grandchildren, the descendants of the Ryker family.
How can they be cast out into the world?â
âThen, tell us!â Emmeline gritted her teeth. âWhat conditions must be met for you to let our family leave together?â
âDad,â Lewis pleaded. âPlease donât make it difficult for them. Theyâre a family!â
âEven you are defying me?!â Oscarâs face darkened as he pointed at Lewis. âYouâre still my son!â
âIâd rather follow my son if you wonât let his family go. Lewis said. âDad, you might as well cast Rosaline and me out of the family as well. All six of us arenât leaving anyone behind.â
âThatâs right,â Rosaline, tears in her eyes, agreed. âIf you have to drive them away, Dad, you might as well drive us all out. We wonât be separated!â
âMom, Dad, you donât have to do this,â Abel said.
