âNo way!â Adam slammed the table, his voice filled with disbelief. âNot even for a day!â
âWell, I canât do anything about it. Youâll have to figure it out yourself!â Abel stood abruptly, heading for the door.
Adam grabbed him, his voice tinged with frustration. âAbel, how heartless you are!â
âIâve made myself clear. What more do you want?â Abel shrugged him off, his eyes reflecting anger.
âDo you think I wonât go find Maxwell?â Adamâs face twisted. âI know you listen to him; heâs your fatherâ
inâlaw!â
With a muffled sound, Abel threw Adam to the ground. Squatting down, he grasped Adamâs collar, his eyes flashing with fury. âMaxwell has always been my father. He adopted me when no one else wanted me. If you dare disturb him, Iâll make sure you crawl back to your hometown from Altney!â
With a firm stride, Abel left. He didnât have time for those he deemed worthless; he needed to find Benjamin and inquire about the case.
Adamâs wife rushed over, grabbing Abelâs clothes, exclaiming. âThe boss is hitting people! When he has money, he forgets everyone!â
Suddenly, a white figure appeared from the corner, swiftly landing two slaps on Adamâs wife.
Smack! Smack!
Stunned, Adamâs wife covered her stinging cheek in shock.
Before them stood a girl in a white shirt and light blue jeans, possessing a tall figure, long flowing hair, and delicate features. She exuded a carefree aura.
Abel smiled, âMia, why are you here?â
âIs it surprising?â Mia stood playfully in front of Abel with her hands behind her back. âBrandon told me about your situation, and I was worried about Emmeline, so I flew over!â
âThank you.â He nodded. âI was just about to go out. Will you wait for me in the office or come with me?
She tilted her head and said, âOf course, Iâll go with you!â
âMr. Ryker!â Landon approached. Iâve checked the car. Throughout Altney, we canât find the same imported model from Ford Focus.â
âNo way!â Abel said, âThe difference is too significant!â
âDo we have to order this specific car?â Landon frowned. âCanât we consider other brands?â
âEmma likes this model,â Abel said. âSince she canât choose it herself, we still have to get this one, right?â
âThatâs it. Iâll go to the capital city,â Landon said.
Abel nodded, âThank you for your hard work!â
âOh, by the way,â Landon said. âI asked the housekeeping service to buy fresh groceries for Sylvan Mansion.â
âGreat!â Abel said. âIâll have pasta for lunch when I go back.â
Sylvan Mansion? Alana mused, her curiosity piqued as she overheard the conversation. Abel and Emmeline have a place in Sylvan Mansion? Suddenly, it dawned on her. No wonder I havenât seen them returning to the office building in the backyard.
Shortly after departing from Ryker Group, Abel, accompanied by Mia, contacted Benjamin while en route.
Benjamin promptly picked up, âAbel, youâre back?â
Abel replied, âYes, Iâve just returned. Where are you right now?â
âIâm currently collaborating with the police on the case,â Benjamin informed. âFind a spot to wait, and Iâll join you in around half an hour.â
âGot it!â Abel agreed. âLetâs meet at Serenity Tea House on Meadow Avenue. Iâll wait for there!â
âAlright!â
Their car approached an upcoming intersection, and they soon made a turn toward Meadow Avenue.
After parking, Abel and Mia were led to a private room on the third floor.
As they settled into their sears, his phone suddenly rang, displaying Adamâs incoming call. Abelâs expression soured; he had expressed all that was necessary, leaving him disinclined to engage further with what he deemed an unworthy individual.
With a firm decision, Abel declined the call. However, the phone rang again, persistently indicating Adamâs call. Resigned to the persistence, Abel contemplated for a moment, then passed the phone to Mia, signaling for her to handle the call.
Mia accepted the call and greeted, âHello!â
Adamâs voice crackled from the other end. âEmmeline! You finally answered the phone? Where are you?â
Mia, caught off guard, swiftly redirected her gaze to Abel, her suspicions evident in her eyes.
Abel took the phone. His tone was chillingly intense, resonating with lethal intent. âAdam, Iâve warned you not to disturb Emmeline. Do you not comprehend what Iâve stated?â
Adam, taken aback, froze on the line. âI called Emmelineâs number. Why did you answer?â
âYouâre asking for trouble!â Abelâs tone turned menacing. âEmma is sick; canât you leave her alone?
âWell,â Adam fell silent, âI didnât mean anything else. I just donât want Zahn to end prison.â
âI canât save him!â Abel gritted his teeth. âIf you have any sense left, let him turn himself in.â
âAbel, you leave me with no choice!â Adamâs voice seethed with frustration before abruptly ending the call in anger.
