Alone in his mental safe space, Adrien told himself that everything looked so real because Adam needed to convince Emmeline that she was in real danger. Without a few blood splats and bullets, how else could the urgency of the situation be conveyed? Yes, it must all be part of the plan. Or so Adrien thought to himself.
Inside the conference hall, Adam looked at Abelâs vacant seat. It was getting suspicious now. And when he looked at Benjamin, Benjamin was gone too âSir, there is a fight up there.â a staff member came to Adam.
âWhat?â Adam jumped from his Beat. âF*ck. I was tricked.â
âWhat do we do now, sir?â
âGo up, idiot.â
âYes, sir.â
On the 29th floor.
âEmma! Iâm here for you!â Adrien shielded his face and headed straight to the ninth room, where Adam said he would keep Emmeline. Adam had thought to kidnap Emmeline once Adrien ârescuedâ her. But due to the sudden fight, his plan deviated.
âEmma!â Adrien pushed open the door to the ninth floor. Abel followed suit.
âAbel?â Adrien was surprised to see his brother here. âWhy are you here?â
But the moment Adrien saw the gun Abel was carrying, he knew this was no longer just an act. They were fighting for real.
Boom! Boom! Two more bullets came from another direction. Abel rolled into the room with Adrien.
âMmm!!! Mmm!!!â groaned Emmeline in a muffled voice. She was bound on a chair.
âEmma!â
âEmma!â
Boom! Boom! Another two bullets came flying. Abel hunkered down out of reflex but the inexperienced Adrien got shot. Blood oozed out from the wound on his chest.
âAdrien!â Abel shot back and tried to get Adrien up.
âIgnore me. Just save Emma,â said Adriend weakly.
Emmeline was getting desperate. She wanted to call out Adrienâs name but she couldnât. Truth be told, she didnât expect the cowardly Adrien to show up here in person. Still, she didnât want Adrien dead.
After all, Adrien was her sonsâ father.
âCome, Emma.â Abel removed the ropes and tapes on Emmeline and dragged her out.
âBut Adrienâ¦â said Emma.
âForget about me.â Adrien lay in the pool of blood. âThey wonât do anything to me. Iâll just say that Iâm in the wrong place, at the wrong time. Abel, take Emma to safety.â
âEmma, letâs go.â But Emmeline stumbled to the ground when she took her first step.
âWhat happened, Emma?â Abel helped Emma to get up.
âThat bastard gave me some anesthetics. Iâm a bit weak now.â
Abel didnât even ask for her permission and decided to carry Emmeline in his arms.
âGive me your gun. You carry me. I shoot.â
Abel looked at her in disbelief.
âYou can use a gun?â
