When Abel saw that Adrien was calling him, he answered the call right away.
âAdrien!â
âAbel, donât come to the hospital. The police are everywhere and they are investigating it,â said Adrien weakly.
âHow are you, Adrien?â
âIâm fine. I just told the police that I was a guest there. But youâre different. You canât show your face here.â
âYes, I know. Thanks, Adrien.â
Abel was planning to head to the hospital to extract the bullet from his shoulder. It seemed like that was no longer an option. After the call with Abel, Adrien then called Adam.
âAdrien? Where are you? Whatâs going on?â
âBeat me to it, Adam. There was a gunfight. The police are arresting the suspects. Are you safe?â
âThe gunfight had nothing to do with me. It was the Palace Lordâs doing. And Iâm a lawful citizen,â lied Adam.
âGood. You should stay away from the Palace Lord. In case you are thrown under the bus,â warned Adrien.
âDonât worry. I donât deal with him. Besides, I only went to him to ask for a small favor. I do not plan to work with him in the future.â
âGood, good. I have to hang up now. The doctor will put me under to take the bullet out,â Adrien stated.
âYou were shot, Adrien?â Adam was surprised to hear that.
âYeah, on my right chest.
Fortunately, my vitals are unaffected.â
âWhat the⦠Who shot you? Iâm going to kill whoever shot you.â
âBullets have no eyes, Adam. Emma is safe, at least,â
âYeah, but Abel saved her. Not you,â Adam grumbled.
âItâs fine. I just want her to be safe. Besides, you got what you wanted, didnât you? Abel and Benjamin both lost hundreds of million dollars,â said Adrien.
Adrien was right. Even though Adam lost Emmeline, Abel was about to lose his position as the CEO as well.
Back in The Precipice.
Abelâs brain was busy coming up with a way to extract the bullet from his shoulder. Due to the drug, Emmeline could only lie against Abelâs arm limply.
âHow is Adrien doing?â asked Emmeline in a sultry voice. The vulnerability in her made her look extra seductive. For a moment, Abel lost his voice.
âIâm asking you a question, Abel.â
Abelâs fingers brushed against Emmelineâs cheek. âDo you care about him that much?â
âI just donât want anyone to get hurt,â answered Emmeline.
âIâm injured too. But you didnât even bother to ask me if Iâm doing okay. You brought up Adrien. Youâ¦â protested Abel./
âSo what do you want, Abel?â
âDo you know what I was thinking and we were running for our lives back then?â Abel leaned down and nibbled on Emmelineâs earlobe.
âHow am I supposed to know?â Emmeline dodged away. âI canât read your mind.â
âI told myself that I wonât allow you to leave my side again,â spoke Abel softly.
Emmeline felt conflicted. For the complicated past she had with Abel, could she ever live a happy life with Abel?
