âGet out of my way,â it was Waylon Adelmarâs cold, calm voice that addressed the bodyguards surrounding Abel. The bodyguards, including Janie, were stunned by the authority in the manâs voice and immediately moved to the side. Waylon immediately grabbed Abel by the arm and pierced his chest with a tiny, almost invisible silver needle.
âWhat are you doing?!â Luca yelled.
âTake him inside,â Waylon ordered. âHeâll need surgery if we wait any longer.â He instructed the guard to open the front doors.
âMr. Waylon, Master Adelmar said theyâre not welcomed here,â the guard informed him.
âThis manâs stomach is bleeding out. Do you really want him to die in front of our gates?â Waylon challenged, leaving the poor guard caught between a rock and a hard place.
âHow do I address you?â Abel asked weakly as he looked at the man who had just stuffed needles inside him. He was a tall man with handsome features, no younger than thirty-five or six.
âIâm Waylon Adelmar,â the man said. âAnd you must be Abel Ryker, I presume?â
âThatâs right,â Abel managed.
âThe three kids look very much like you,â Waylon added. âI see where they get their good genes from.â
âThereâs four of them actually,â Abel corrected. âEmmaâs first child is still with me.â
âSo Iâve heard from my father⦠Please go inside first, Mr. Ryker. Your condition needs to be treated immediately,â Waylon advised.
âThank you, Mr. Adelmar,â Abel nodded gratefully.
âYou donât have to thank me,â Waylon said. âIâm your brother after all. Itâs my father who has a bone to pick with you.â
âIt was my fault. I didnât protect Emma well enough,â Abel said with sadness in his eyes. âI will apologize to the old man as soon as I see him, butâ¦could you at least tell me how she is doing right now?â
âThis was the exact reason why my father refused to see you,â Waylonâs expression darkened. âLetâs talk about that laterâ¦â
Abel felt his heart catapulting. âWh⦠what do you mean by that? Emmaâ¦â
âI canât answer you,â Waylon sighed, cutting Abel off. âLetâs leave it to fate.â
Abel could barely hold it together any longer. He had not been eating or sleeping for the past ten days, only to hear those five brutal words from Waylon. His vision began to blur and darken as he slowly lost consciousness, passing out on the Adelmarâs front porch.
âBring him to my car,â Waylon told Luca. âWeâre still a distance away from the main building.â
âYes, Mr. Adelmar,â Luca and Janie immediately carried Abel onto Waylonâs Rolls Royce, while the other four bodyguards tagged along behind closely. The cars travelled down a windy path shaded by tall trees and passed by several ornamental pavilions before arriving at a castle-like grand building two minutes later.
Waylon got off the car and hollered for Luca and Janie to carry an unconscious Abel. A woman dressed in a maidâs uniform came rushing from the building to greet Waylon. She spoke in a language that neither Luca nor Janie understood.
âMy father spotted your entourage from inside the building,â Waylon translated the maidâs message.
âWhy donât you bring Mr. Abel to the lounge first? Iâll be with you in a moment.â
âSure, and thank you for your help,â Luca replied politely.
The maid ushered Luca and Janie together with Abel into a small private lounge in the building. As Abel slowly regained his consciousness, he found himself lying on a plush daybed in a glitzy, gilded room of marble and stone, with a foreign looking woman dressed in a maidâs uniform standing next to him. With all his might, Abel pushed himself up to get into a sitting position.
âMr. Abel!â Luca immediately rushed over to Abelâs side upon noticing that he had stirred. âMaster Adelmar knows weâre here. Weâre waiting in the lounge for now.â
âWhat did he say? Howâs Emma?â Abel asked, still slightly dazed.
âHow dare you ask that question?â a voice bellowed from the doorway as a severe looking old man appeared. Abel immediately recognized him as the old man who was at the emergency room that night.
âYouâre Master Adelmar?!â Abel was incredulous, jumping to his feet immediately. âWhereâs Emma?â
âYouâve got some nerve coming here demanding for things!â Robert Adelmar boomed. âI treated and loved her like a daughter. How dare you come looking for her after what youâve done to her?!â
âMaster Adelmarâ¦â Abel began. âI know I donât deserve to ask for anything, but⦠I just want to know where she is, and how is she doingâ¦â
âDidnât my son tell you?â Robertâs thick, white eyebrows furrowed. âItâs all up to fate now. Which part of that donât you get?â
