Luca leaned in for a closer look. âEmmettâ was still wrapped up in blankets, snuggled in Abelâs arms.
Now it was Lucaâs turn to be dumbfounded.
He approached, staring at the pair as if he didnât recognize his own boss.
âMr. Abel, whatâs going onâ¦â Luca began to ask.
Abel furrowed his brow and turned his head, unsure of how to respond.
He didnât know how to explain the situation to Luca.
Last night, Abel had held âEmmettâ in his arms as they slept, and it felt amazing. He inexplicably felt at ease and content. He slept soundly and sweetly, even in his dreams.
So what was the big deal?
âMr. Abel,â Evelyn approached and took hold of Abelâs arm, speaking softly. âJust apologize to Auntie so she can have peace of mind.â
âThereâs nothing to apologize for,â Abel shrugged her off and spoke coldly. âI just love Emmett, so what?â
Suddenly, Rosaline felt her vision darken and her body sway.
Her son had actually admitted it himself, he liked this man!
Abel stood up and tried to support his mother, but she pushed him away.
âI donât have a son like you!â Rosaline cried. âIâve lived half my life and never imagined my son would be a pervert, let alone my future son-in-law, a man!â
âMr. Abel,â Evelynâs voice trembled with tears. âYou must be joking. How could you like men? Youâre just joking, right?â
âIâm not joking,â Abel lifted Emmeline with one arm. âI just suddenly found myself drawn to this little guy.
I canât explain it myself, so I might as well just admit it.â
Rosaline was speechless and rolled her eyes in frustration.
âMom!â Abel quickly went to support her.
âAuntie, Auntie!â Evelyn also supported her. âTake care of yourself!â
âAbel!â Rosaline pushed her son away and took a deep breath. âIf you still recognize me as your mother, come home with me now. Iâll make your father give you a good lesson!â
Abel remained silent.
He didnât think he did anything wrong. He just liked this little guy.
Nothing shameful had happened between them, so what was the problem?
âMr. Abel,â Evelyn said hesitantly. âAuntie is so upset, just give in to her for now.â
âMr. Ryker,â Emmeline was afraid that Rosaline would have a heart attack. âYou should go home with Auntie first, and Iâll contact you later.â
âAlright then,â Abel nodded, not wanting his mother to get into any more trouble.
He gently rubbed Emmelineâs head and his eyes softened as he spoke in a soft voice, âLittle kid, donât wander around, remember that Iâll call you back later.â
âMhm, I wonât move, you can rest assured,â Emmeline obediently nodded her head.
âGood boy,â Abel said before he helped Rosaline out of the room.
As everyone left, the room fell silent. Emmeline took off the fake mustache and eyebrows and lay sprawled on the bed.
âOh my god, Iâm so tired!â Emmeline exclaimed.
âBut Ms. Louise,â Sam closed the door behind them, âitâs worth it, isnât it? You can see how much Mr.
Abel cares for you.â
âYeah,â Emmeline blinked her dark peach eyes, âeven though heâs lost his feelings for Emmeline, his soul still recognizes me!â
âIf thatâs the case,â Sam suggested, âwhy donât you just confront him directly?â
âThat wonât work,â Emmelineâs expression darkened, âdonât underestimate Waylonâs medicine. It really does work. Iâve tried testing Abel several times, and heâs completely indifferent to Emmeline. If I showed up as Emmeline, he would just push me away, and I wouldnât even be as welcome as Evelyn.â
âAh,â Sam pouted, âWaylon, why did you have to resort to such a stupid plan? Itâs turned two lovers into strangers!â
âItâs not Waylonâs fault,â Emmeline sighed, âhe didnât want anything bad to happen to Abel, and this was the only way he could think of.â
âWhen will Mr. Abel fall in love with Ms. Louise again?â Sam asked, concerned. âIâm really worried.â
âI have no idea,â Emmeline rubbed her own head, âweâll have to take it one step at a time.â
