Emmeline tugged at her little hand, but Abel had a death grip on it and wouldnât let go. It was starting to hurt, and she winced, âAbel, ease up! Youâre going to bruise me!â
Abel finally loosened his grip a bit, but Emmeline still couldnât free her hand. She huffed in frustration and gave up, resigning herself to being held captive.
Without missing a beat, Abel wrapped his arm around her and pulled her close, enclosing her in a tight embrace.
âItâs so good to have Emma back,â Ethan chimed in, trying to diffuse the tension. âLetâs celebrate with lunch today. My treat, everyoneâs invited.â
âIâm in,â Abel spoke up first. âEthanâs right, it makes sense. Count me in.â
Benjamin and Janie exchanged a glance, thinking to themselves, Whatâs Ethan meddling in now? Everything was going fine.
But could they really argue with his proposal now?
âMr. Benjamin, Janie,â Ethan turned to them. âDo you think itâs a bad idea?â
Benjamin reluctantly nodded, âItâs fine, I agree.â
Janie raised her hand, âIâm in too.â
âI knew it,â Ethan grinned. âEmmaâs back and itâs definitely worth celebrating!â
The question remained, could this show go on smoothly?
âWhich hotel should we choose?â Abel eagerly offered, âIâll take care of booking the private room.â
âIâll cover all the expenses,â Benjamin chimed in. âLetâs go with the Struyria Banquet, after all, itâs Adelmarâs place.â
âThat settles it then, Struyria Banquet it is,â Ethan agreed. âWhy let someone else reap the benefits?â
Abel nodded in agreement, thinking to himself that the Struyria Banquet was the perfect choice. The last thing he wanted was to run into Adrien at a Ryker Group hotel. Having Benjamin on one side and Adrien on the other would only lead to trouble, and he didnât want to be caught in the middle.
Just the thought of it made him feel jealous and insecure. He didnât want to be a ticking time bomb, ready to explode at any moment.
It was already past 10 am, and it would take an hour to drive to the Struyria Banquet. They all left the CEOâs office and made their way to the underground parking garage.
Ethan drove his Lexus, while Janie joined Benjamin in his Bentley. Emmeline didnât drive, so she had to sit in Abelâs Rolls-Royce.
As Abel got into the driverâs seat, he leaned over to fasten Emmelineâs seatbelt. But just as he was about to reach for her small hand, she withdrew it.
Abel reluctantly started the car, feeling frustrated. Luca followed behind with his bodyguards, unwilling to leave them alone. Benjaminâs bodyguard car also kept up with them.
By the time they arrived at the Struyria Banquet, it was already past eleven oâclock. They took the elevator up to the designated floor and entered the private room.
Benjamin pulled out a chair for Emmeline, while Abel took her purse from her hands. Ethan looked on, dumbfounded.
What are these two men competing for?
The two men were trying to outdo each other in showing their attentiveness to Emmeline.
But Abel was the one who should have been the most attentive.
What was Benjamin trying to achieve by meddling in this situation?
âEmma,â Ethan tested Emmeline, âwhere did Mr. Benjamin take you last time? Iâve been wondering.â
âI was injured,â Emmeline explained, âso Ben took me to get treatment.â
âWhy didnât Abel go with you?â Ethan asked, intentionally provoking.
Emmeline glanced at Abel when Ethan mentioned his name. âHim?â she said, âHe doesnât know the place.â
âOh,â Ethan felt uncertain and probed further, âI remember you and Abel picked a wedding date, so when is the big day? I need to prepare myself.â
âDonât bother about that,â Emmeline replied, âI suddenly donât want to get married anymore.â
This statement left Ethan completely dumbfounded, and he looked towards Abel for some answers.
âEmma,â Abel spoke urgently, âmarriage is not a game, you canât just decide not to get married.â
âBut thatâs what you said,â Emmeline retorted, âyou said you didnât want to get married.â
âEmma,â Abel said in a low voice, âthat was all in the past, itâs all over now, donât hold onto it.â
âIâm not holding onto anything,â Emmeline said. âItâs just that Iâve come to this point again. How can I marry you when Iâm like this?â
Ethan widened his eyes, looking left and right.
Whatâs wrong with his sister? Was she falling for Benjamin and breaking up with Abel?
âMr. Benjamin,â Ethan said coldly, tugging at Benjaminâs sleeve. âCan I have a word with you?â
Benjamin, confused, followed him out of the private room.
âWhatâs going on, Ethan?â
