The call was loud enough for Benjamin, Janie, and the staff on the gold court to hear. Embarrassing to say the least, but Evelyn couldnât care less. Her priority was to find out what was going on, but no matter how much she racked her brains, she couldnât figure out who she crossed.
She hadnât met too many people since she took over business on this side. The first person she met was Abel. Wait a minute. Realization struck her, and a chill ran down her spine. Emmeline? Abel did say sheâs some sort of super powerful woman. But what did he say? I donât really remember. No way.
Iâve looked into her case. Sheâs the daughter of the Louise family, and her familyâs not even that rich.
Thereâs no way she has the power to bring us down. No way.
Evelyn shook her head and put on a pitiful look. âMr. York, can you tell us why you did this?â
âHow should I know?â Benjamin smiled. âPerhaps your father is right. Maybe you got on some bigwigâs nerves. Why else did they go after your company right after you took over?â
âBut I donât even know who I crossed.â Evelyn looked helpless.
âWe donât either.â Janie said, âRack your brains, Ms. Murphy.â
âThen it must be Emmelina,â said Evelyn. âI was just talking to Abel in his office, and she was in the waiting room. Could she really be more than meets the eye? Oh, right.â She looked at Benjamin. âI remember now. When she got shot, you were the one who took her away. So youâre close to her, then?â
Benjamin only smiled, but Flynn got the message. âMr. York, may we ask you to call Mr. Ryker and Ms.
Louise?â
Benjamin mused over it. âFor old timesâ sake, I can do you a favor, but I canât guarantee what might happen. You might have gotten the wrong guess.â
âPlease, Mr. York. Call him,â said Flynn. âPerhaps this is our last chance.
âUmâ¦â
Evelyn pleaded, âPlease, Mr. York. Please?â
âFine.â Benjamin nodded. âIâll do it.â
âThank you, Mr. York!â Flynn got up, and so did Evelyn. They quickly said their thanks.
Janie harrumphed.
Abelâs phone, which he placed on the table outside, started to ring. He had just finished another round and happily got up. Emmeline was weak, and not an ounce of strength was left within her.
âIâll have to take this call.â Abel kissed her cheek.
Emmeline panted, and it took everything she had to just grunt.
âIâll whip something up for you when we get back.â He whispered into her ear, âYou canât be too weak, you know. I need this every night.â
âYouâre a demon.â Emmeline narrowed her eyes. âYouâre fearsome even in bed, you know that?â
Abel pinched her nose and smiled. âOnly to you. I wonât do it for anyone else.â
âYou should get the call.â Emmeline pushed him. âItâs been ringing for a while.â
Abel reluctantly got up and left the room, but the call had ended. He picked the phone up and checked his call history. Benjamin? He quickly called him back.
âHello, Mr. York.â Abel smiled. âI knew youâd call.â
Benjamin evaded the main topic at first, and he smiled. âYouâre talking about the biopharm supply, I presume?â
âOf course,â said Abel. âI was just waiting for your call. I presume we can sign the deal now?â
