âEmma!â Adam dismounted from his horse. âWhy are you eating grass?â
âItâs so dark here. Iâm so scared. Where am I?â Emmeline pretended to be afraid.
âBut thatâs no reason to eat grass.â Adam shook off the sand and dirt on Emmelineâs shirt.
âI was so scared. I guess I had a panic attack.â
âItâs okay. Iâm here. Youâre safe now.â Adam held Emmelineâs hand. âLetâs go back, shall we?â
âWhereâs Nightsky? I can ride on my own.â Emmeline didnât want to ride with
Adam.
âYouâre not doing that. God knows where youâll wander off next time.â Adam
didnât leave Emmeline any choice. He carried her in his arms and put her on the
horseback. On their way back, Adam didnât touch where he shouldnât touch. He
knew very well that to win Emmeline over, he needed to be patient. Meanwhile,
Emmeline felt discomfort in her stomach. But she acted like there was nothing.
Once they were back in the mansion, Adam had his servants help Emmeline get
changed. All of a sudden, Adamâs assistant came with a message. âMr. Anthony,
the doctor ran away.â
âHenry escaped?â Adam stood up.
âBefore we could kill him, he had already disappeared.â
âA bunch of imbeciles!â Adam scowled. âGo look for him now. I want him dead.â
âYes, Mas⦠Mr. Anthony. But Henry had only spent two days here. He couldnât
have known everything.â
âBetter safe than sorry,â said Adam.
âYes, Mr. Anthony. We will look for him.â Adamâs assistant then left.
Adam wasnât too affected by the minor setback. He was still reeling from the
intimate journey he just had with Emmeline. Who wouldnât? He wanted to see
Emmeline again, so he entered Emmelineâs room. Coming out of a shower,
Emmelineâs pristine skin was on public display. Adamâs jaw almost fell to the
ground.
Once they were bock in the monsion, Adom hod his servonts help Emmeline get

âPrepare some warm soup for Miss Louise. And give us some privacy, please,â
Adam told the servant.
âNoted, Mr. Anthony.â
Emmeline could feel the drug within her body dissipating slowly. But her
stomach ache was getting worse. She let out a soft moan.
âWhatâs the matter, Emma?â asked Adam, concerned.
âMy stomach hurts.â Emmeline frowned.
âShould I summon a doctor?â
âNo need. Just let me lie down a bit.â
Adam tucked Emmeline in and sat beside the bed silently. He could admire
Emmelineâs beautiful face for hours.
