Abel answered, âNaturally, the answer is two. One is on the left, while the other one is on the right.â
Isnât this question a bit childish?
Adam continued, âThereâs something in one of my pockets. Which pocket do you believe it to be in?â
Abel chuckled and questioned, âWhat kind of game is this? Do you seriously need me to make a guess?â
Adam explained, âYouâre right to ask a question. Itâs far more complicated than a guessing game.â
âWhat do you mean? Please explain everything to me at once!â Abel said.
Adam said, âYou win if you can figure out which pocket is empty. Iâll walk away from this, and you can go with Emmeline.â
âOr else?â Abel asked with a cold smile.
Adam clarified, âIf you guess wrong, you must eat whatever is in the pocket.â
Abel mocked, âHaha! It wouldnât be something good, right?â
Adam assured him, âDonât worry, at least itâs not poison. I guarantee you wonât die.â
Adam sneered in his heart, but I also guarantee you wonât find the cure! Itâs Adelmarsâ fault to destroy the ancient tome!
âWhat if I donât listen to you?â Abel sneered.
Adam cast a quick glance at Emmeline, who was unconscious. He said, âThatâs easy. Iâll take her with me.â
âDo you think youâre capable of doing that?â
Adam snorted, âI donât, but the dagger in my hand does. You donât want Emmeline to suffer any harm, do you?
Abel reproached, âYouâre truly despicable!â
Adam sneered and said, âYou must abide by my rules. You have no other choice.â
Abel nodded and said, âFine! Iâll guess.â
Adam said, âVery well! If you lose, you must accept the consequences that come with it.â
âOkay! Iâll admit my defeat.â
Abel looked at the man draped in a black bed sheet across from him. Only his ankles and black leather shoes were visible due to the size of the bedsheet, which completely covered his body. He could not make out the pockets at the bottom of his suit. All he could do was guess!
After he gave it some thought, Abel pointed to Adamâs left pocket and said, âThis one is emptyâ¦â
Adam laughed coldly and asked, âSoâ¦which side is the item on?â
Abel pointed to the right pocket again and said, âOf course, itâs on the right.â
Adam chuckled heartily, âWahahaha! Are you sure everyone would put things in their right pocket?â
Abel was stunned. He had forgotten that there were left-handed people in this world. Abel frowned, âDoes that mean I made the wrong guess? Itâs on the left?â
Adam took out âDeathly Desireâ from his left pocket. He said, âYouâve lost. You need to admit your defeat and accept the consequences. You can take Emmeline away after you eat this!â
With that being said, Adam threw the bag that contained the powder at him. Abel stretched out one of his hands to catch it. He furrowed his eyebrows.
âDonât worry, I told you itâs not poisonous,â Adam said.
âWhat is it, then?â
Adam said, âYou should refrain from asking questions. Are you too scared to do this?â
Abel hesitated for a while.
Adam sneered, âDonât forget the dagger in my hand. Iâll count to three. If you donât eat it, I willâ¦â
He turned the blade around and pierced the sharp edge toward Emmelineâs delicate skin. He counted, âOneâ¦â
âDonât hurt Emma!â
Abel poured all the powder into his mouth and swallowed it with his saliva.
âDamn it! If itâs poison, Iâm confident that I can kill you before it takes effect!â
Abel threw the empty bag on the ground and roared, âGive Emma back to me!â
âThis is great!â Adam pushed Emmeline toward Abel.
When Abel reached out to catch her, Adam quickly left the room and ran downstairs. He entered the basement and escaped through a hidden passage.
âEmma!â Abel hugged Emmeline in his arms and sobbed in happiness.
He could finally hold his beloved Emma again! He felt rooted when he felt her soft body, which fell into his arms.
âEmma, donât be afraid. Iâm taking you home.â
Abel carried Emmeline in his arms and hurriedly ran downstairs. As they left the living room through the front door, the sun was shining brightly. Abel squinted his eyes to adjust to the light.
âEmma!â
âEmma!â
When Benjamin and Waylon noticed Emmeline was in Abelâs arms, they both excitedly ran up to them.
