Emmeline explained as she clung to Abelâs neck, âAfter I woke up, I couldnât find anyone, so I walked out of the room on my own.â
â¦
She believed she was still in the Imperial Palace when she awoke. She felt afraid until she took in a scent from the bedding that she was familiar with. The scent was Abelâs. Emmelineâs thoughts became more upbeat at once.
Thatâs right! I came home yesterday. Abel, Benjamin, and Waylon had saved me and brought me home! Where is Abel?
âHubby? Hubby?â
Emmeline called out to Abel softly. She got up and walked toward the door after not hearing any noise coming from the room.
â¦
âSilly girl, you should have called for me or Kendra,â Abel said.
âI was eager to give it a shot. I know the way around my own house.â
âBut you canât see, and you risk falling and getting hurt, just like what happened just now.â
Emmeline tilted her head and said, âI know, Iâll be more careful next time. I heard Waylonâs voice, is he here?â
Waylon spoke softly from the side, âEmma, Iâm here.â
âWaylon!â
Emmeline slid down from Abelâs arm and dashed toward Waylon.
Waylon reached out and picked her up.
Emmeline laughed cheerfully and said, âHehe.â
Waylon put her down and said indulgently, âYou need to stop acting like a child! Stop acting cute! Abel might get jealous of us.â
Emmeline chuckled and said, âItâs pointless for him to be jealous of us! Iâm still your little sister and not someone elseâs, even though Iâm eighty years old.â
Abel responded, âAhem! Emma, you can rest assured that Iâm not jealous.â
Suddenly a voice came from the door, âWhat about me?â
When Abel and Waylon looked up, they saw Benjamin had arrived with Janie.
âBen?â
Hearing Benjaminâs voice, Emmeline jumped up happily and opened her arms. Benjamin ran over and scooped her up, spinning her around in his arms.
Abel coughed again, âAhem! Should I feel envious of you two?â
âItâs up to you,â Benjamin said with a chuckle.
âHaha, I donât think Iâm the only one who would be jealous, right?,â Abel added with a smile.
Emmeline blinked her hazy eyes and asked, âWhat? Who else would be jealous?â
âItâs Janie, of course,â Abel replied with a smile.
âIâm not jealous of Emma,â Janie responded as her cheeks flushed.
Emmeline jumped up in surprise and asked, âJanie? Youâre back?â
Janie grabbed Emmelineâs hand. Her eyes had turned red, and she said, âYes, itâs all my fault. Iâm so sorry, Emma.â
Emmeline laughed and comforted her, saying, âWhat are you talking about? Iâm fine, am I not?â
Janie said with a choking voice, âYour eyes and the scar on your head, I feel guilty about this.â
Emmeline patted her hand and consoled her, saying, âItâs all right now. Waylon is here. My scars and eyes wonât be an issue.â
Janie wiped her tears and said, âEmma, you need to get well soon. I still want to attend your wedding with Mr. Ryker.â
âThatâs a must! You canât leave without saying goodbye this time, okay?â
Janie shook Emmelineâs hand and said, âEmma, donât bring that up. Iâm embarrassed about it.â
âHahaha,â Emmeline laughed happily. She grabbed Janieâs wrist and felt her pulse.
âItâs great, the baby has such a strong vitality. It has to be a boy!â
âCan you tell that?â Janie was a little taken aback.
âYou donât believe me? Why donât you ask Waylon to check your pulse?â
Janie said shyly, âThat wonât be necessary. Iâll be happy, whether my baby is a boy or a girl.â
âIt would be best if it were twins,â Emmeline teased.
Janieâs face turned even redder, and she cast a quick glance at Benjamin. He was expressionless.
Janieâs heart sank a little.
Emmeline took Janieâs hand and asked, âDo you have a due date? Iâm eager to be an aunt. When will the baby be born?â
âWe still have a long way to go, she hasnât been pregnant for very long.â
Janie was too embarrassed to speak up before the men.
Benjamin stepped in to save Janie from embarrassment. He said, âEmma, you need to let Waylon check your eyes now. All of us are worried sick about it.â
