âDo I even need to say it?â Benjamin was a bit angry.
âAfter all, he is my first child. He did nothing wrong.â Janie was stunned momentarily, then began to sob softly, âI regret it so much. Why was I distracted while driving?â
âOkay, letâs put the past behind us. Donât blame yourself,â Benjamin sat by the bed and hugged her.
âMy promise wonât be returned just because we lost the child. I will still marry you, and we will have another child.â Janie pushed him away.
âI donât want your pity. I know that you can marry anyone as long as itâs not Emmeline. Iâm not special.â
Benjamin did not know what to say. To some extent, Janie was right. As long as it was not Emmeline, he would either not get married or could marry anyone.
âKnock, knock.â There was a knock on the door outside the hospital room. He could see the figure of Emmeline in a light green long skirt through the glass. She finally found her way from the parking lot to the emergency room and then to the regular room. Janie was flustered, âDonât let her come in. If she asked me, I donât know how to answer.â
âBut Emma is worried about youâ¦â
Janie wiped her tears, âI know. I never regretted being friends with her.â
âThen why canât she see you?â
âYou want me to tell her I got into a car accident becauseâ¦â
âThen forget it.â Janie covered her mouth and cried, âBenjamin, my biggest regret is falling in love with you.â
Benjamin sighed deeply. Janie threw herself into his arms and sobbed, âBenjamin, how can I save myself? Tell me, how can I stop loving you? You are protecting Emmeline, but I still love you. What should I do?â
Benjamin said bitterly, âYou have the same disease as me. There is no cure. We can only save ourselves.â
No cure? Janie suddenly thought of something. That is not true. There is a cure. The Worryfree from the Adelmar family, is not that the best medicine? The door was knocked again, and Samâs voice came, âThis is the room. I asked the nurse.â
âBut why is there no sound inside?â Emmeline asked, âIs Janie asleep? And Benjamin is here too?â
Benjamin pushed Janie away and stood up, feeling unsteady. âGo and send Emma away.â
Janie wiped away her tears and said calmly, âDonât let her suffer with us.â
Benjamin nodded, âOkay, Iâll be back soon.â
âOkay.â Benjamin turned around to open the door, and Sam stepped in. But the next second, she was pushed out by Benjamin.
âMr. Benjamin?â Benjamin picked up Emmeline and walked quickly towards the elevator.
âBen.â Emmeline struggled in his arms, âI want to see Janie! How is Janie?â
âJanie has been given anesthesia and is still asleep.â Benjamin said, âYou go back first.â
âIs she seriously injured?â Emmeline was scared.
âLet me see her!â
âWhatâs the point? You canât see her anyway!â
âThen is she badly hurt?â Benjamin said, âNo, she just hit her forehead.â
âThen why wonât you let me see her?â Emmeline kicked him and struggled to get down. Benjamin felt sorry for her but did not want Emmeline to see Janie. What if Janie accidentally spilled the beans?
âBen.â Emmeline beat his shoulder. âPut me down.â Benjamin knew that she would not stop if he did not say something.
So, he said coldly, âThe child is gone. She is distraught. I donât want you to go in and upset her again.
Do you understand now?â
Emmeline immediately became obedient. Is the child gone? Tears welled up in her eyes. âHow could this happen? How could she be so careless?â
