âOf course!â Hesperus smiled, and dimples appeared on his face. âIâll treat you as my real granny. Iâm sure Sun and Moon will do the same!â
âMm.â Rosaline hugged Hesperus tightly, âYouâll always be my dear grandson!â
Alanaâs expression gradually sank as she witnessed the scene. Waves of jealousy and resentment assaulted her.
Hah! Looks like blood is thicker than water. Look at the grandmother and the father. What can possibly break those invisible ties apart?
Alana glared at Emmeline resentfully.
Why canât I ever get rid of that woman?
While Alana was grumbling, the doctor came into the room to conduct a routine check-up, and everyone else had to leave.
âIsnât it getting late, Abel? Shouldnât you be at work?â Rosaline asked.
âIâll go there later,â Abel replied. âIâm still worried about Star.â
âYou donât have to worry about my son, Mr. Ryker. I shouldnât stop you from your work,â Emmeline said.
âYou look tired. Why donât you go home and rest, and Iâll stay here to take care of Star?â Abel looked at Emmeline with concern.
Emmeline shook her head. âDonât worry. Iâll be okay.â
Alana rubbed her stomach and said, âThatâs right, Abel. Why donât you spend your time with me instead?â
âThis isnât the time to compare children.â Abel snøfted coldly. âYou should go home. Thereâs nothing for you here.â
âButâ¦â Alana did not want to leave.
âI donât need so many people worrying over Star,â Emmeline said tactfully. âYou should go home, Madam.â
âMm.â Rosaline turned around and prepared to leave.
Alana turned around and walked toward the elevator with Rosaline.
âYou should go too,â Emmeline said to Abel. âCompany matters are more important.â
âIâm still worried about you two.â Abel frowned.
âI said weâre okay.â
âIf thatâs the case, Iâll pick you up later tonight. You can call me if you need anything,â Abel said.
âMm.â Emmeline nodded. Even though she was still cold and distant, her demeanor softened a little.
Abel turned around and went into the elevator. Luca, who had been waiting around the corner, also went inside.
Emmeline accompanied Hesperus for the rest of the day.
In the afternoon, Julianna, Helios, and Endymion came to visit.
The two boys cheered Hesperus up.
Julianna praised Hesperus for being a brave boy.
After they left, a bodyguard came under Abelâs orders to deliver dinner from Nimbus Hotel. Emmeline and Hesperus ate a lot that evening.
âLooks like Abel Ryker is very dependable,â Hesperus said. âAccording to my observations, Adrien Ryker is nowhere near qualified.â
Emmeline sighed. âDonât mention his name.â
âBut why isnât Abel Ryker our Daddy?â Hesperus said precociously.
I wish heâs your father too, but things didnât turn out this way.
âMommy, could you adults be mistaken?â Hesperus said.
âThatâs impossible. Iâve seen the results myself. Your father is indeed Adrien Ryker.â
âWhat a pity.â Hesperus pouted.
Emmeline could not help but chuckle at his worried face.
âDonât worry. It doesnât matter who your real daddy is, Iâll always be here with all of you. Neither of them can claim you for themselves!â
âIâm glad to hear that.â Hesperus nodded. âIâm sure Helios and Endymion will be glad too.â
Hesperusâ condition stabilized later that night, but his body temperature remained high.
Emmeline was worried the bacteria might get into his blood, but fortunately, Adrien was available for a transfusion.
Even though Adrien might be a playboy, he was nonetheless dependable when his son needed him the most.
At the end of visiting hours, Emmeline kissed Hesperus and said goodbye to him.
âIâll be going home. Will you be okay being alone in the hospital?â
