Abel took a deep breath. âBe a good girl and listen to me, Emma.â
âNo! I want to hug you!â
Suddenly, Abel turned around, hugged her by the waist, tossed her on the bed, and wrapped her blanket.
Emmeline was confused. She stared at Abel with fear in her puppy eyes.
âHubbyâ¦â
Abelâs heart wrenched when his eyes met her gaze.
He pinned her arms under the blanket and quickly pecked her lips.
âI need to go after I change my clothes. You should continue sleeping. Itâs still early.â
âAre you going back to Ryker Group?â Emmeline said. She wanted to stretch out her arms and hug him.
However, Abel had pinned her arms tightly under the blanket, and she could not remove them at all.
She could only lift her head and stare at the handsome face less than a foot in front of her.
âMm.â Abel nodded.
A hint of sorrow flashed in Emmelineâs eyes. âAbel, are you hiding something from me?â
âOf course not!â Abel said. âI wonât dare to hide anything from you!â
âBut you seem like youâre avoiding me, and⦠you donât want to be intimate with me,â Emmeline said.
Her face was blushing.
âNo.â Abel averted his gaze. âIâve been very busy, and I donât have the energy to make out. Iâll be fine soon.â âThatâs what men say when they have an affair. Are you using it as an excuse too?â
âNo way! Iâm really busy!â Abel said. âI need to run Ryker Group, and Iâm also looking for Anthony Green.â âAnthony Green? You can forget about him. Iâm already back, right?â Emmeline said.
âNo. He kept you in captivity for such a long time. I canât forgive him,â Abel said.
The most important thing is, he holds the antidote to Deathly Desire!
However, Emmeline interpreted those words differently.
Is he keeping his distance because he thinks Anthony Green might have violated me, and that Iâm no longer pure?
Only she knew that Anthony had never touched her.
Emmeline bit her lip.
âAlright, itâs time for you to go back to bed. Itâs still carly,â Abel said as he kissed her hair.
He stood up and tucked Emmeline in.
He was about to leave when he saw the pram again.
âWhy is Quincy here?â
âKendra accidentally twisted her ankle last night,â Emmeline mumbled. âIf she hadnât, I wouldâve gone to Ryker Group to look for you.â
I donât think itâs an accidentâ¦
Abel changed into a suit and left for Ryker Group without cating breakfast.
Emmeline sat up on the bed and hugged her knees.
Does he hate me now?
Half an hour later, Emmeline got up and pushed the pram to Kendraâs bedroom.
Kendra was already awake.
Her ankle had already recovered thanks to Emmelineâs treatment, and the swelling was almost gone.
âMs. Louise!â Kendra said happily while rotating her ankle. âMy ankle is fine now! Youâre amazing!â
âIâm glad to hear that,â Emmeline replied with a smile. âIâll have to make breakfast for Abel. Iâll leave Quincy to you.â
âIâll make breakfast too,â Kendra said. âI can work as normal now.â
âYou should still rest. The ligaments take time to heal,â Emmeline said. âLeave breakfast to me.â
âBut you canât see that well,â Kendra said worriedly.
âDonât worry. Iâll just have to be careful.â
âAlright then. Careful not to scald yourself,â Kendra said.
âMm,â Emmeline replied and went down the stairs.
She made some of Abelâs favorite breakfast items and placed them in an insulated bag.
She was not going to drive there herself, so she got the driver.
Abel had left much earlier. Currently, it was the morning rush hour.
It took Emmeline 45 minutes to reach Ryker Group.
With the insulated bag in her hand, she skipped happily toward the building.
