Hayden's pov
I was finally back at the academy, I asked Alexis to take my bags to my room since she was already on her way up with Isabel
Walking back into the Academy felt unreal. It opened my eyes to reality. This. Was my reality.
Being enclosed and watched by people who think they can mold you into a figure they wish to achieve
My feet found its way to the academy's lawn. There was a big oak tree I recalled seeing. I sat on the grass, my back pressed against the trunk. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath in before remembering what life was like before coming out
**********Flashback*************
"I missed you" Blake whispers wrapping her arms around my waist, her chin rested on my shoulder from behind
"You're gonna get me in trouble if someone sees, you know how my mom is" I groaned. Blake and I have been dating for a few months, it's been great but she's moving away soon which makes her busy trying to organize some stuff for the past week. I try to avoid thinking about it but it's always just there poking around like a bitch
"I don't careee" she whined "Come with me, we'll eat hot wings and pizza all day" she pouted. She's so cute
I turned to face her, we were currently in the locker room changing for our game that was about to start. Everyone on the team had already left to warm up but Blake and I stayed back, it was our usual thing since we barley got to spend anytime in school
Since Blake and I started hanging out more, my mother started her skepticism bullshit. She constantly lurks on us, doesn't want me to be alone with her anywhere and doesn't let me go out for long
There's no way I'm gonna let her find out about this, she'd bury us both
"I wish I could" I kissed her cheek "But my mom might send the whole swat unit" she laughed, my lips were pressed into a thin line
"I'm serious" I really was being serious
"I wish she wasn't like this" she said pulling her shirt over her head. I leaned against the locker behind me, pulling Blake into my chest
"I love you" I whispered, our eyes locked. Her smile reached her ear
"I love you so much" her hands found my cheeks, cupping them and pulling our lips together. Our lips lingered for a few seconds before we pulled apart
"Ready to end these bitches?" I asked
"Ready" she grinned before grabbing my hand and leading us out to the field
The stand was half packed. My eyes scanned over the crowd in search for my father, he always came to my games, big or small, he was always there. It's one of the things I loved so much about him. My eyes met his and he gave a big wave
"Wooo Hayden" he yells, I shook my head smiling and grouped with my team
"Captain, get in the picture" a teammate yelled, I happily made my way over to the group and kneeled with the soccer ball, awaiting the flash of the camera
"You girls look great, have a good game everyone, Good luck" an elder woman said as she lowered the camera, I waved her goodbye and started doing some stretches
"I see things are going great with you two" Alexis smirked
"Where were you yesterday?" I asked, we had a team meeting after practice yesterday
"Kind of had an emergency" she rubbed the back of her neck. I knew she didn't want to talk about it. Her breakup was rough, she's never been to be the same since then
"I'm always here if you wanna talk about it, you know that" I say lowering my voice, she gave a half smile and continued her stretching

"We fucking WONNN" Alexis screamed
"The game's been over for hours, chill" I chuckle
"I will not!" she screamed "The way you fucking snaked your way past that goalie was legendary"
The game ended a few hours ago, Alexis and I decided to get something to eat afterwards, she was currently driving me home
"what's your girl doing out there" Alexis says as she pulls up infront of my house, I notice Blake sitting on the porch, her hands wrapped around her knees that we're pressed to her chest
"No idea, I'll go check on her, thanks for the lift" I say exiting the car, Alexis nods before driving off
I made my way up to the porch
"Hey Blake, everything okay?" I asked taking a place next to her
She remained silent, the tension began to make me nervous
"I'm sorry" she whispered
"Why? What's wrong?"
"Your m- I just can't do this" she corrected herself. My heart fell
"I'm leaving soon either way, we just won't work out" she stood. Her eyes avoided mine
"What are you saying Blake"
"It's better to end this right now, I don't want to mess up your future. I'll be thousands of miles away, I'll just be holding you back" she mumbled
As the words fell out of her mouth, my body slowly went numb. The stinging pain in my heart was nothing compared to the tightness in my throat. I chocked back the tears.
"So you just make this decision for the both of us and I'm supposed to accept it?"
"Hayden Please-"
"No Blake. I love you, do you expect me to just give you up like that because you said so?"
"You have to...." she whispered, with that, she left. The love of my life left me on my porch with a broken heart
She took a piece of me with her when she left
The tension in my throat finally came at ease as I let those tears down
"Hayden? Is that you?" my father's voice rang from inside the house
I remained silent, my chest felt heavy but my soul felt empty
The door unlocked and my father's eyes met mine. Immediately he knew something was wrong
"She isn't just your teammate is she?" he asked. If I wasn't clearly overwhelmed, this was worse
I shook my head, not finding the words to speak to him. What would he say?
"She's your girlfriend isn't she?"
"Not anymore" I mumbled, I left like I lost it all, I guess I'll be losing my family next
"I'm sorry hun, come inside let's talk" he stretched his hand out
What?
My eyes focused on his features, searching for the sarcasm. His eyes were soft and fill with sympathy. I raised a brow before taking his hand, allowing him to pull me up.
He placed his hand on my back rubbing small circles as we walked into the house
"I know how your mother feels about these situations so it'll just stay between us" he says
I bring my knees up my chest as I get comfortable on the sofa. My father sat on the opposite side of the room facing me
"How are you feeling?" he asks
"Like the world just caved in" I groaned, I heard him give a small chuckle
"It do be like that" he smiled weakly,
"How long have you two been together?" he asks
"A few months"
"Why didn't you tell me?"
"Because I was scared" I glanced at him
"Mom isn't the most supportive person when it comes to sexuality So I just-"
"Assumed I was too" he finished
"Yeah... " I mumbled
"There's not much advice I can give you, but I do understand heartbreak. You seem like you really cared about her, I know it's gonna hurt, maybe to the point where it's suffocating" he says
"But it always gets better. And I know that's such a common thing to say but I assure you it does" he grins
"How are you so calm about this?" I chuckle
"Welll I dated a bisexual girl back in highschool, thankfully I wasn't an immature jock, she helped me learn so much about the community. Listen to me Hayden, you're my daughter, and I'll always love you. You can date a guy, a girl, or whoever you please.. But that won't change the fact that I love you" he says stretching his arms out for a hug, I happily accept. His embrace putting me at ease instantly.
What did I do to deserve this?
"Not in my house" A pissed voice came from the stairs
"Harriet, now's not the time" my father says clenching his jaw
"The hell it is, you're not gay Hayden, you keep hanging out with that Alexis girl and you're gonna catch her dise-"
"Shut the fuck up Harriet" He yells
"Hayden, go to your room, I'll handle this, I love you" he says patting my back, I rush my way past my mother on the stair to head to my room. I locked my door before laying my broken body on the bed
My tense body relaxed into the soft sheets, I closed my eyes feeling the tiredness take over. My parent's muffled screams echoed through the walls.
"Get out!"
"I'm not leaving my child"
"I said get out before I take you to court for what you did Elon!"
"Harriet you're acting fucking crazy right now"
"Don't you dare show your face here again, don't call us"
"I'm not gonna give up that easily on my daughter Harriet, I'll be back"
I was half conscious by now, my eyes slowly shutting as the door slammed
Little did I know my father left us that night
