Aurora
Morning came quicker than I wished it would. I was totally getting cold feet about this date with Max.
I shouldâve declined right away, but I just couldnât bring myself to do it. He was just too sweet for me to break his heart that way.
And I know what it was like to anticipate a rejection. Iâd had to endure it for months with Wolfgang.
~âAnd Max has been nothing but kind and attentive toward us.â~ Rhea cooed in my mind. She was completely right.
â~Letâs just get this over with, and try not to hurt Maxâs feelings in the process,~
~ I said to her. She nodded in answer.~
I picked my phone up from the charging port and headed down to the kitchen to find Mrs. Kala there, whipping eggs.
âMorning, dearie. Breakfast will be ready soon,â she said, smiling at me warmly.
âMrs. Kala, it really isnât necessary for you to come and prepare my meals. I told Wolfgang I could do it.â I told her, but she quickly dismissed me on the subject.
âIâm more than happy to be doing it, to be caring for our luna,â she said happily.
I couldnât help the somersault my stomach made at the mention of the title.
âMrs. Kala, remember, I still havenât accepted that title. If you could just call me Aurora, or Rory, Iâd be grateful.â I said, measuring my words, trying not to offend her.
âAlright, dearie. Whatever makes you feel more comfortable,â she said as she placed a plate of scrambled eggs, bacon and hash browns on the table.
âNow eat up. Iâll go take the laundry out.â She said, then practically dashed out of the kitchen before I could tell her that wasnât necessary.
I sighed, then I picked my phone and decided to text Wolfgang about the matter.
Aurora
I thought I told you that I didnât need a nanny.
Wolfgang
Iâm the alpha.
Wolfgang
If I say you need a nanny, youâll have one.
Wolfgang
Plus, I thought you liked Kala.
Aurora
I do. Thatâs why it seems unfair that you forced her to come here cook my meals and do the chores.
Aurora
I am perfectly capable of doing it on my own, you know
As I typed, I filled my mouth with bacon.
Wolfgang
I know youâre perfectly capable of doing it on your own, but still Iâd rather have Kala there to help you out.
Wolfgang
What time are you and Max meeting today?
I almost choked on some egg. I really didnât want to talk about that.
Much less when he didnât know that it was actually a date that Max and I were going on.
Aurora
Aren't you supposed to be in a meeting or something?
Wolfgang
Yeah, but someone keeps sending me texts and distracting me from my work.
Aurora
Well excuse me, Mr. Alpha, but I think youâre big enough to ignore any messages you receive.
I got up and placed the dirty dishes in the sink. Then I heard another ping from my phone.
Wolfgang
Itâs kinda hard when the person whose writing back is my beloved mate.
Wolfgang
I can ignore messages from anyone else, but not my mate.
I couldnât help the blush that crept up on my cheeks. I was thankful no one was there to see me, because I was red as a beet.
Aurora
Well, Mr. Alpha. I wonât bother you anymore, so you can fully concentrate on your meeting.
Aurora
PS: Iâm not your mate, unless youâre texting with someone else.
I decided to ignore the next couple of pings, and occupied myself by washing the dirty dishes.
Once I was done, Mrs. Kala walked back in.
âOh, dearie, you didnât have to do the dishes. I was on my way to do them myself,â she said, a crease between her eyebrows.
âItâs okay, Mrs. Kala. This much I can do myself. Itâs not like Iâm disabled,â I said as I wiped my hands on a paper towel.
âNonsense, Rory. Alpha Wolfgang commanded me to do this work, and I fully intend to comply until he comes back,â she said with a huff, putting her hands on her hips.
When she did that, it meant that there was no room for further discussion.
âFine, Mrs. Kala. Iâll let you do your work, but donât overexert yourself,â I said, giving up on winning any discussion with her.
I picked my phone back up and found that I had two more texts from Wolfgang, two from Max, and two from Emma.
Wolfgang
Only because you say so.
Wolfgang
P.S: You are my mate until I reject you. And thatâs never gonna happen.
As I read Wolfgangâs reply, I couldnât help rolling my eyes. As usual, he was ruining everything with his possessiveness.
I turned my attention to the texts from Max.
Max
Hey Rors. How about we meet in town around 5 pm?
Max
Iâm excited for our date. Are you?
âMore like anxious about the aftermath of it,â I said to myself. I felt like I would throw up my entire breakfast.
Instead, I looked at the remaining texts, which were from Emma.
Emma
Hey boo! Donât forget that my bus arrives tonight, at 9:15.
Emma
Better be there, or I swear Iâll bite your head off, Aurora Craton.
I snorted. As usual, so authoritative.
Well, I didnât have to meet Max until five oâclock. Which would give me more than enough time to think about what to say to him.
I had to find a way to make it sound not too harsh, but still enough for him to understand there could never be an âusâ between the two of us.
