Chapter 145
Since they were both adults, Simon couldnât be bothered to beat around the bush. No one would go out of the way to be nice to another if it werenât for ulterior motives.
He was forthright about his admiration for Millie, which surprised her.
âBut Iâm not yet divorced,â she said stiffly.
âI know.â
âMr. Harrison, are you seriously going to be a homewrecker for love?â she couldnât help but tease him.
The mood lightened. Raising a brow cheekily, he grunted. âWell, thatâs a possibility.â
She chortled before looking out of the window. âI do not have plans to date for now.â
He immediately replied, âIâll just take a number and wait until youâre ready.â
Her heart fluttered. Looking down, she smiled but said nothing.
After dinner, Simon sent her home.
Terrence and Julia, who were watching the TV, interrogated her when she got home. âWas it Simon who drove you home?â
âYeah.â She lay on the couch tiredly.
Terrence grunted. He stated, âI saw Winston when I visited your grandpa at the hospital today.â
Millie rested her face on her palm. Bifrost Hospital wasnât exactly a large place. As the inpatient department was a building on its own, it wasnât surprising for Terrence to run into Winston there.
Sighing, Terrence suggested, âYou should get the divorce over with.â
Lowering her head, she replied, âGot it.â
Switching to another topic, Terrance said, âThe annual cruise party in Yerwick will happen in a month. Mills, why donât you attend on our behalf?â
âI donât want to.â She sprawled lazily on the couch.
The cruise party was a gathering of the rich attended by wealthy socialites. To Millie, it was a boring event where everyone splurged and indulged themselves in luxurious pleasures.
The party was known to get wild. If her attention lapsed, she might find herself drinking spiked drinks.
âWhy are you always saying no to everything? What is it that you want, then? Youâre going! Itâs final,â Terrence shouted.
Dumbfounded, she wondered why Terrence was emotionally unstable lately. It didnât take long for him to raise his voice in a conversation.

âDadâ¦â She hugged Terrence and cooed, but he heartlessly pushed her away.
He barked, âStop wheedling your way out! That doesnât work on me.â
Julia suggested to Millie, âYou should go and get some new friends! Thatâll expand your horizons!â
Pouting, Millie snorted, thinking, âFine! Iâll go.â
However, she regretted her choice when she retired to her bedroom. Somehow, she felt that trouble would arise at the cruise party, just like every year.
Even so, she decided to take things as they came. Sheâd be fine attending the party as long as she wasnât the one who got into trouble.
The next day, Rachel called Millie, inviting her to go shopping. Since it was the weekend, Millie agreed
to go out,
The luxury brand stores shined in the mall. Sipping her coffee, Millie glanced around and commented, â The summer season designs this year are lackluster.
Rachel nodded. Her hair was in a simple ponytail, and she wore a face mask, yet anyone could tell she was a beauty.
They absentmindedly wandered into one of the jewelry stores. The employee approached them with a smile. âWelcome, ladies. What are you looking for?â
Millie noticed an emerald threeâpiece setâconsisting of a necklace, ring, and a pair of earringsâas she sipped on her coffee.
Her gaze traveled to the designerâs signatureth the lower right corner. As expected, she found Juliaâs artist name, Chantelle, printed there.
Smiling, the employee complimented Millie, âMadam, you have great taste. This is the latest design that has just arrived in stores today. Each branch only has one set in stock.â
Right as Millie was about to take a closer look at it, she heard a female voice from behind.
The woman asked, âOh, is that a new item? Iâll take a look!â
Millie and Rachel looked at the customer. The latter seemed surprised to run into Millie. âMs. Caldwell?
Millieâs smile froze. She had run into none other than Harriet SteeleâJoannaâs mom!
âHi, Mrs. Lowell,â Millie politely greeted her.
