Chapter 147
The next morning, Millie jolted awake from Marvinâs call. He sounded urgent. âBoss, I have bad news!â
Eyes shut, Millie turned in bed and stuffed the blanket between her legs. She calmly instructed him in a drowsy voice, âGo ahead.â
âWinston Greer found out that M Base was behind the hacking.
Frowning, she thought, âWait. Didnât we go through the same update yesterday?â
âToday, he discovered that I was the culprit who sent the virus to his phone.â
Upon hearing that, Millie shot up from her bed.
What?
âMarvin, whatâs up with you?â She was puzzled. Marvin had always been meticulous, so why was he
found out?
âBut-â He cleared his throat and said, âIâm still safe for now.â
She got out of bed and put the call on speaker mode. She questioned, âWhat do you mean?â
âHe hasnât narrowed it down to me, so Iâm protected for now. The M Base is also protected; it hasnât been exposed yet. Butâ¦â
Millie was about to go to the bathroom when Marvin confessed, âI pinned the blame on you. I told him you paid the M Base a handsome sum for the order, so we took your money and carried out the
request.
Marvinâs voice trailed off until silence settled in.
Standing at the bathroom entrance, Millie curled her fist and glanced at her phone by the bed. Marvin remained silent. She didnât speak, either.
Moments later, she exploded in anger, bellowing, âMarvin, Iâm gonna kill you!â
He whimpered, âBoss, itâs all my fault!â
She picked up the phone with trembling fingers.
âBoss, I know youâre angry, but please calm down! Think carefully. He wonât go hard on you because youâre his wife, unlike me, an outsider. Isnât that right?
âBesides, you wouldnât want him to find out about M Base. If that happens, heâll know that youâre M. Boss, I have no choice but to let you take the blame. Just bear with it for now!â
Then, he added sincerely, âBoss, Iâm sure youâll be understanding.â
She huffed and puffed. Her cheeks were flushed in anger. How could she be understanding?
Marvin probably didnât overhear Winstonâs conversation with Eli. Winston had instructed Eli to find the culprit and sliced off one of their fingers!

Knowing Winston, he was a man of word. What if he really cut off her finger? She felt silly for putting in an insurance policy for Marvinâs fingers when he had betrayed her in no time.
Marvin hung up when Millie remained silent. She paced the room angrily.
She heard a chime from the phone. To her surprise, it wasnât from Marvin; it was from an unknown number.
She pressed the phone against her ear and answered it. Winstonâs deep voice echoed in her ear. He said, âMillie, youâre really something.â
Speechless, she stared at the number and chuckled. Oh, Mr. Greer, did you get a new number? Iâll save
Seething, he cut her off. âRemember? You blocked my old number.â
Dumbstruck, she did indeed forget about that incident, but now, she was reminded of it.
âIâll wait for you at the breakfast place. Millie Caldwell, you have 20 minutes to show up,â he said in a malicious tone.
Millie could picture his face contorted in anger. She mumbled, âWhat if⦠Iâm just saying⦠What if I did not show up after 20 min-
She heard his muffled chuckling. He threatened her, âMillie, Iâm sure you wouldnât want my men to surround your family home.â
Millie fell silent. That sounded like something he was capable of doing.
