Chapter 149
âMillie, are you threatening me now?â He narrowed his eyes, and they glinted dangerously.
Millie straightened up and put on a serious face. âI swear to God I do not intend to threaten you.â
She wasnât crazy. She wouldnât admit to threatening him in his face.
His expression stiffened. He seemed really mad. Standing up, he placed a thick document on the table. âMs. Caldwell, these are the losses that my company suffered.â
Fixing an icy glare on her, he stated, âI look forward to your compensation, or we shall meet in court.â
Frowning, Millie flipped through the invoices and promptly went blank from shock.
What was wrong with Winston? How could he count the loss in cafeteria sales due to employee absence? What a petty man!
Marvinâs words echoed in her head. âThink carefully. He wonât go hard on you because youâre his wife, unlike me, an outsider. Isnât that right?â
Hah!
Glaring at him, she barked, âYou capitalist pig!â
âYou deserve it.â Smiling, he proceeded to leave but stopped in his tracks as a thought crossed his mind.
He turned and addressed her, âPay up on time, or things will get really ugly if we go to court. Itâs especially so for you, Ms. Caldwell.â
She stared at him in frustration. He left withou turning back.
She then flipped through the thick document on the compensation. The total amount was listed on the last pageâ34 million dollars!
She was astounded by the figure. Another line was printed under the total amount. âThe claimant agreed to a 50% discount on the final compensation, considering Ms. Caldwell is the claimantâs wife.â
Gritting her teeth, she thought, âOh, great! Should I thank him for that generous discount, huh?â
Slamming her fist on the table, she took a seat and discovered that he had ordered her favorite breakfast foodsâhashbrowns, pancakes, french toast, and more.
She had planned to eat breakfast but decided to leave when she recalled his scowl.
To her surprise, the waiter entered her room with a smile. âHow do you do, Ms. Caldwell? Mr. Greer has asked to charge the breakfast to your card.â
Millie was rendered speechless and cursed him in her mind, âWinston Greer, you motherfucker!â
No, charge him!â she growled.
âIâm sorry. You must pay for the breakfast, Ms. Caldwell.â Nodding, the waiter stated, âMr. Greer says we can hold you until you pay up. Please donât make it difficult for me.â

Millie had no choice but to bow to Winstonâs instructions. Staring vacantly at the waiter, she finally sighed and gave in.
After paying, she decided to tuck in. Why would she skip the breakfast that she paid for?
At that thought, she unblocked Winstonâs number and sent him a text. âHow could you do this to your legal spouse when weâre not yet divorced? Do you not have a heart?â
He replied, âOh, do you finally see yourself as my wife? Arenât you supposed to be an exâwife, Ms. Caldwell?â
Biting her lip, she tightened her grip on her phone.
He retorted, âAn eye for an eye. Donât tell me youâre mad.â
She snickered and rolled her eyes. He had indeed sounded more and more bitchy after spending more time around Joanna!
She sneered and wrote, âNo, Iâm not mad. I feel grateful for having such a reasonable exâhusband!â After texting him, she blocked his number. He was about to text her when he realized he had been blocked again.
Speechless, he thought, âShe is really something!â
âMr. Greer, do remember that we are scheduled to welcome our foreign business partners at the Grand Santiago Hotel tonight,â Eli suddenly reminded Winston.
Winston grunted and turned off his phone. He massaged his forehead, looking visibly exhausted.
When Millie left work that night, she received a text from Terrence. âDonât forget to stop by the hotel.
Sighing, she was reluctant to go, but she obeyed his orders anyway.
