Chapter 152
After Winston left, Millie and the mysterious man left the suite. The manâs deep voice echoed, âI would like steak for dinner.â
She nodded. âFine. I can treat you to anything you like.â
The man pressed on, âHave you given the matter some consideration?â
She flashed him an awkward smile, as she totally didnât.
Rolling his eyes, the man tapped her on the forehead.
Just as Winston arrived at Joannaâs ward, he received a text from Jake. âWinston, guess who I saw on the road? Your exâwife!â
Another text soon came. âHo ho! Her car really stands out. I could spot it from a mile away! But why was there a guy in her car? I caught a glimpse, and god, was he hot!â
Winston frowned at the texts, which wouldnât stop coming in.
Jake rambled on, âThey seemed quite flirty. I even saw him feeding your exâwife some cherries. Looks like she has options!â
Winston might appear emotionless, but he slowly clenched his fist. He was ready to block Jakeâs number if he refused to stop.
Jake wrote, âShe seems quite happy after leaving you. I would have pursued her if she wasnât your exâwife. No man would pass on a beauty.â
Winston finally replied, âYouâre pushing your luck.â
Jake wrote back, âHehe!â
Winston warned him, âYouâd better stop mentioning her around me.
Jakeâs incessant mention of Millie only added to Winstonâs frustration. He switched off his phone. When he looked up again, he found Joanna staring silently at him.
He found it quite perplexing that Joanna didnât recover much in the hospital. Instead, her condition declined by the day.
Confused, he asked, âAre you still unwell?
Joanna had the best doctors at her service, and Logan brought her a variety of foods
daily to cheer her up, but all of that didnât help.
âWin,â she uttered his name in an airy voice as she lowered her gaze.

She confessed, âIâm unhappy. Nothing in life excites me. I donât want to eat or talk, and I struggle to fall asleep at night. Do you think I might be⦠sick?â
She looked at him, her eyes loaded with emotions..
Winston frowned. He had a weird feeling about everything. Stroking her hair, he knew that he couldnât give her what she wanted, at least not at the moment.
âWin, can you please tell me that you love meâ¦â She fixed her misty eyes on him with a pleading look. She craved for him to tell her that he loved her, hoping that the sweet words would offer reassurance.
He moved his lips, but he couldnât bring himself to make the declaration. Perhaps he didnât wish to speak against his conscience.
âWin, it hurts hereâ¦â Joanna placed a finger on the scar on the back of her hand, sending him a reminder about the fact that she had saved his life. Therefore, he must love her.
Winston examined her scar with complicated emotions. His hesitation was akin to confessing that he didnât love her.
âWin, is it that hard to say âI love youâ?â Tears rolled down her face. She seemed aggrieved.
He flashed her a quiet smile. Then, he gently comforted her, âJust focus on your recovery. Clear your head.â
Once again, Joanna was disappointed by his answer. She refused to speak and turned her face away. A short silence hung in the room, only to be disrupted by the text notification on Winstonâs phone.
This time, Jake sent him a photo. He also wrote, âYo, I happened to be dining at the same restaurant as your exâwife. Sheâs holding hands with that man. How sweet!â
Winston grew even angrier after seeing the text. He promptly blocked Jakeâs number, unaware of the subsequent message Jake had sent.
