Chapter 180
Millie viciously threw Kane over her shoulder and sent him crashing to the ground. The crowd around them cheered and clapped. âThatâs right! Teach him a lesson!â
âYou were raised by a woman, werenât you? So, whatâs with all this hatred toward women?â
Blood began to trickle down from the corners of Kaneâs mouth. He stared blankly at the ceiling and moved his fingers.
Millie looked at him coldly while lightly wiping her mouth. Then, she gestured at him with a stoic expression and coolly commanded, âGet up!â
Seeing that her husband was lying on the ground, Cara sobbed as she crawled over.
âPâPlease donât hit him,â she pleaded to Millie.
Millie was taken aback. Was Cara actually begging for mercy for this man?
âPlease donât hit him. If you kill him, itâll be the end of our family.â
Millie was shocked to the core. Even at this point, Cara still referred to him as family.
Yet, she raised her fist again. However, Cara shielded Kane, protecting him with her body.
Millie froze with her fist in midair. Cara, her eyes brimming with tears, begged, âPlease donât hit my husband.â
âThe police are here!â someone reminded Millie from behind.
In the end, the officers pulled her away. Her gaze was filled with disbelief as she stared at Cara, who hung her head low while clutching Kaneâs hand tightly.
At the police station, the officer interrogated, âWhat happened?â
âIt was just a minor family matter. But she got involved and even beat my husband up.â Cara explained softly with her head down.
Millieâs gaze remained fixed on Cara. However, Cara dared not look at her. Instead, she asked the police, âItâs just a private matter between me and my husband. We havenât done anything illegal, have we? When can we go?â
Even in her weakened state from the beating, she continued to speak up for Kane.
âDr. Caldwell, whatâs your side of the story?â the officer questioned.
Only then did Cara lift her head to gaze at Millie.
Millie frowned. At that moment, she finally understood why Lainey had cautioned her to stay

out of patientsâ personal affairs.
Everyone thought themselves morally superior, like saviors who could save the world. But looking back, no one was capable of saving themselves. So, how could they persist rescuing everyone else?
Millie lowered her head and replied indifferently. I shouldnât have interfered.â
Outside the door, Winston stood with his arms crossed. Her response elicited a frown from him.
In actuality, Millie was a proud woman. It was rare for her to say such a thing.
Winstonâs phone rang. The moment he saw the caller ID, he pressed decline with a hint of annoyance before shifting his gaze back to Millie.
âLetâs settle this privately. Iâm willing to compensate for everything,â Millie calmly suggested, pressing her lips together.
Having said that, she rose and asked, âCan I leave now?â
âYou need a family member to post bail before you can go,â the police reminded her.
Millie couldnât help but look up at Winston. She didnât want her parents to worry about her, so she figured she might as well have Winston help with the bail.
Winston led Millie out of the police station. When she glanced back, she couldnât help but chuckle. In the end, it was all just a pointless ordeal.
âAre you alright?â She heard Winston speak beside her.
Millie cast him a sideways glance, lost in thought. To Winston, women probably held little. value, too. Otherwise, how could he so easily juggle two of them?
Perhaps, to many people, women werenât worth respecting. They were mere playthingsâto be kicked around like balls.
At that moment, Millie despised men and looked down upon weak women, including herself.
âYeah, thanks,â she responded.
âLet me give you a ride home.â Winston sensed that she wasnât doing well.
However, Millie decisively refused with a smile, âNo need.â
