âWeâre clearing away the negative energy!â Julia told Millie. âA tidy house brings good energy.â
Millie believed Julia must have seen the press conference where Winston showed up with Joanna. She couldnât shake the feeling that she had let her family down by bringing disgrace upon them.
Winston had truly crossed a line this time. He hadnât considered the Caldwells at all.
Millie pouted and looked up at Julia.
âWhy canât I get this clean?â Julia muttered while cleaning.
Millieâs gaze darkened slightly. She knew full well there was a deeper implication behind her motherâs words. So, she chuckled and teased, âAre you guys deep cleaning the house because Grandpa consulted the psychic again?â
Julia waved in response. âNo, itâs not that. Go wash up! Weâre having dinner together. Thomas is here today.â
Millie blinked, Thomas was back?
She immediately dashed into the house, and sure enough, Thomas was playing chess with Terrence. The two brothers were having a great time together and the atmosphere was wonderful.
âUncle Thomas!â Millie called out.
Thomas lifted his head and noticed her. âAh! Millie, come here!â
âUncle Thomas, you didnât even visit me when I was in the hospital! Iâm upset. Hmph!â
Even so, Millie still sat down beside Thomas.
Terrence chuckled. It was evident how close she was to Thomas. She didnât even greet her father upor seeing him. Terrence couldnât help but feel she was showing favoritism.
âI came right away with a roasted lamb because I heard youâve been discharged!â Thomas lightly tapped Millieâs head.
Millie blinked repeatedly. âAre we having roasted lamb for dinner?â
âYes, weâre just waiting for you. Dinnerâs ready to be served!â Thomas replied with a grin.
Millie nodded. âOkay, Uncle Thomas, youâre still so reliable.â
Thomas countered, âWhen have I ever let you down?â
washing her hands, Millie came out with an apple and sat down, saying, âRachel mentioned that thereâs a gala happening in Yerwick in a few days for the people in the entertainment industry. Will you be attending?â
âYes, do you want to come along?â Thomas asked while playing chess.
âIs it fun?â Millie asked back, biting into the apple.
Thomas narrowed his eyes and chuckled. âOf course, it is. There are plenty of attractive men.â
But Millie shook her head, declining.

âGive her an invitation so she can join in the fun, Terrence suggested.
Thomas immediately clapped his hands. âI was thinking the same thing!â
âItâs just a dull party where everyone shows off their authority. Whatâs enjoyable about that?â Millie remarked as she rose to check on the roasted lamb.
âFor us, it might be an event where everyone displays their influence, but for some newcomers in the industry, itâs a chance to rise quickly and network with important connections.
âIsnât it better to have more connections and fewer enemies?â Thomas asked Millie.
Millie gazed at him, unable to find the words to retort.
âYouâre right.â In the end, she nodded in agreement before going off to check on the roasted lamb.
Thomas laughed heartily in return. âSince she was young, she has always been able to handle anything that comes her way.â
He then said to Terrence, âTerrence, she doesnât take after you in this.â
âWho else would she take after then? Sheâs my daughter, after all!â Terrence replied with a huff.
A mischievous grin spread across Thomasâ face. âYes, Indeed, sheâs your biological daughter.â
His eyes sparkled with amusement when he deliberately emphasized âbiological daughterâ. Terrence cleared his throat lightly, displeasure written all over his face. He moved to sit next to Thomas and warned, âStop making those jokes at home. Weâre not planning on letting Millie find out!â
âGot it.â Thomas sighed and made his final move on the chessboard. âOh well, I lost. Iâm going to find Millie.â
Having said that, he headed to the courtyard.
Terrence stared at Thomasâ retreating figure. At that moment, he was overwhelmed with unease.
If this matter ever came to light, it would seem like Thomas was the one who exposed it. How did he even discover it back then?
