Chapter 246
Winston frowned and immediately called Eli. With the phone pressed to his ear, he reached into the car and fumbled for a cigarette.
However, Eli didnât answer. Winstonâs forehead creased even more. He hung up and sent a question mark to Eli.
Winston had just lit his cigarette when he spotted Millie walking out of the hospital with a few colleagues. As she raised her head, their eyes met.
Winston took a drag before tossing the cigarette into a nearby trash can. Then, he patted down his clothes, as if trying to get rid of the smoke odor.
Millie stood in front of him, watching as he retrieved water from the car. Winston took a sip, then said coldly, âGet in the car.â
âWhat is it? Why not talk here instead? I need to visit Grandma soon.â Millie
showed no intention of following his order.
Winston glanced around. It was rush hour, so the place was crowded. Besides, they were already the talk of the town. Was it appropriate to discuss things
there?
Seeing his hesitation, Millie spoke first. âAre you wondering if I was the one- who leaked news about the divorce?â
Winston didnât respond.
Millie knew that in such situations, she would be his first suspect. Frustrated, Winston reached for a cigarette again.
She observed his movements, and suddenly, she took the cigarette from his hand. Winston glanced up, only to see Millie placing the cigarette between her lips.
She then grabbed his lighter and lit it, saying calmly, âI thought that since Iâve agreed to the divorce, you wouldnât suspect me of such low tactics.â
But Winston didnât catch what she said. He only noticed Millie took a puff, blew out smoke rings, and spat, âWhatâs so good about smoking? Itâs suffocating.â
After saying that, she shoved the cigarette into his hand.

Winston frowned as he stared at the cigarette held between his fingers. The end bore a faint lipstick stain.
âIt wasnât my doing. You can believe it or not. If you donâtâ¦â Millie looked up, meeting Winstonâs deep, inscrutable gaze. âIf you donât, then so be it.â
Having said that, she turned and walked toward the hospital without a backward glance.
Winstonâs eyes were glued to Millieâs retreating figure. Suddenly, he felt as though he was dealing with someone formidable. She exuded confidence and decisiveness, leaving no hint of uncertainty.
Millie said it wasnât her. Winston raised an eyebrow. He glanced down at the cigarette in his hand, pondered momentarily, brought it to his lips, and got into the car.
As Millie reached the inpatient department entrance, she couldnât help but turn back. Was she really that unbearable to Winston?
When Millie arrived at the ward, she overheard Selma rebuking, âYou canât even suppress a single news story! What good are you? Brian Greer, the news is about your son!
âCanât you do more about it? Do you want him to be criticized by everyone? Where do you think this leaves the Caldwellsâ reputation? Millie must be heartbroken to see all this news!â
Millieâs hand rested on the door handle. Upon hearing the last sentence, her heart plummeted. Selma truly cared about her. Unfortunately, her love couldnât replace Winstonâs.
In the end, Millie didnât enter the ward. Instead, she spun around and left.
She retrieved her phone and called Marvin.
âFind out who leaked the news about my divorce from Winston. Once you have the information, throw it in his face,â Millie instructed as she entered the
elevator.
She added, âBy the way, look into the Snowdrop incident as well. Dig deep and uncover who was behind it!â

How could this person have dared to accuse her and play games with her? She wouldnât tolerate their actions any longer.
Before Millie could leave the hospital, she saw Joanna walking toward her.
âMillie, letâs talk.â
