Chapter 315
Millie paused briefly before rushing into the elevator. Then, she quickly deleted the message containing the number and pressed the floor button. By the time she arrived, she saw that Jake had sent her a question mark.
Millie scratched her nose and replied, âSorry, Mr. Webson, I sent it to the wrong person.â
Jake: âWho did you want to send it to?â
Millie: âSimon, He wants to collaborate with Rachel.â
Jake: âWhat kind of collaboration?â
Millie: âIâm not sure. It seems like heâs looking for a brand ambassador or someone to promote their jewelry products.â
Jake grew anxious upon learning that. Wouldnât this interfere with his plans? If Rachel accepted Simonâs deal, could she still take on his endorsement?
Jake: âMills, are we friends?â
Millie narrowed her eyes after reading his text, wondering why he was asking this out of the blue. She replied, âNot really.â
Jake: âOh, come on! Donât say that!â
Nevertheless, Millie ignored him and sent Rachelâs managerâs contact information to Simon. She wrote, This is the contact for Rachelâs manager. Iâve already informed Rachel. You can discuss it with them.â
In no time, Simon got back to her. His message read, âThank you. Iâll treat you to a meal if it works out.â
Millie: âNo need to thank me.â
Jake, on the other hand, was still texting her. âMills, letâs have a meal together. I have something to discuss with you.â
Jake: âMills, although you and Winston are divorced, I thinkâ¦â
However, Millie could not be bothered to read the rest of his message. She set her phone to âDo Not Disturb and got to work.
Jake couldnât help but feel frustrated. Rachelâs rejection was hard to take, especially when Simon could easily reach her because of Millieâs friendship with her
Suddenly, it dawned on him that he should go through Millie if he wanted to work with Rachel.
âMillie,â Lainey suddenly called out.
Millie nodded in response. âYes?â
Come with me to the outpatient clinic today.â
âComing.â Millie hurriedly put on her white coat and followed Lainey. As they took the elevator to head
down, she overheard several department heads greeting Lainey.

âDr. Quinn, we heard the deputy chief position is now vacant.â
Lainey, unusually cheerful, teased, âWhatâs the matter? Are you guys planning to jump ship?â
âOh no, weâre not going anywhere. The others chuckled and remarked, âThe cardiac surgery department is so exhausting.â
âThereâs no department that isnât exhausting.â Lainey replied lightly, glancing at her phone.
Meanwhile, Millie stood behind them. She quietly listened to their conversation without uttering a single
word.
âSo, do you have any suitable candidates for promotion?â one of the department heads asked.
Lainey responded, âNot at the moment. Iâll have to observe for another month.â
âI think Vanessa is quite promising. Maybe you can consider promoting her.â
Lainey jested, âWow, Dr. Lane, it looks like youâre quite familiar with our department.â
The group laughed and then exited the elevator.
Millie trailed behind Lainey, who suddenly asked, âWhat do you think of Vanessa?â
âDr. Xander? Sheâs quite good,â Millie answered honestly, her hands clasped behind her back.
Yet, Lainey sighed and commented, âSheâs still quite inconsistent.â
Millie narrowed her eyes upon hearing that, unsure what Lainey meant by that.
âItâs going to be a busy day today.â Lainey said wearily while staring at the computer. âPlease help me keep an eye on things.â
Millie chuckled wryly and replied, âDr. Quinn, youâre kidding, right? How could I possibly help you oversee things?â
âWell, Dr. Lloyd said youâre a promising talent,â Lainey said, glancing up at her.
Millie halted in the middle of pulling out the chair and asked, âWhat else did Dr. Lloyd say?â
âIsnât it enough that he called you a promising talent? Donât you know he hardly ever praises anyone? But he actually complimented you.â
Millie blinked repeatedly. Of course, that wasnât what she meant. She was afraid that Sebastian might accidentally reveal something about her.
âIâm eager to see if youâre truly a promising talent,â Lainey quipped with a smirk. She was clearly not entirely convinced yet.
