Chapter 326
Vanessa frowned, unable to shake her worry. However, Millieâs determined shove left her with no choice but to step out.
As soon as Felix saw Vanessa emerge, he immediately lost his composure.
âWhy are you out here too? When did that doctor start working? Is she even qualified? Iâm warning you, if anything happens to my wife, I wonât let any of you get away with it!â
His voice was loud, and Millie caught every word.
Right then, Lainey rushed over. Upon hearing the commotion, she asked, âWhatâs the matter?â
âDr. Quinn, youâre finally here!â Felix gripped Laineyâs arm tightly as if she were their savior. âMy wife is in critical condition!â
âWhy is everyone gathered here? Whoâs inside?â Lainey noticed a figure in the ward and glanced at Vanessa and Hazel.
Hazel whispered, âUm⦠Dr. Caldwell.â
Lainey frowned in bewilderment. She thought this was ridiculous. How could they let Millie handle it alone?
âWhat are the symptoms?â Lainey asked as she put on her mask.
Just as she was about to enter the ward, the door suddenly swung open, and Millie stepped out.
âItâs all sorted out,â Millie told Lainey.
Lainey was stunned, while Vanessa refused to believe it. Vanessa dashed into the ward and saw that all the indicators on the monitors had returned to normal.
Just moments ago, the patient had been on the brink of death. But now, all her vital signs had returned to normal. How had Millie done it?
Vanessa turned to look at Millie, who stood with her hands in her pockets, calmly observing everyone.
Though the patient went into cardiac arrest, the right amount of adrenaline was administered. Following the standard resuscitation, Millie used some of her own techniques. In no time, the patient showed significant improvement.
Vanessa was dumbstruck. Lainey, on the other hand, checked the patient again and confirmed that everything was indeed fine.
âYou⦠Felix pointed at Millie before glancing inside. His wife was no longer in danger, and her complexion had regained its healthy hue.
Lainey arched an eyebrow and couldnât help but chuckle inwardly. âIâm glad everythingâs fine now,â she said.
-As she stepped out of the ward, she gazed at Millie and warned, âThis shouldnât happen again.â
Since this was Laineyâs patient, Millie shouldnât have acted on her own. If anything had gone wrong, who should be held responsible?

Millie nodded obediently. She then forced a smile and apologized, âIâm sorry, Dr. Quinn. I was just too
anxious.
âBut you handled it well,â Lainey replied with an approving smile.
It seemed Millie was truly as remarkable as Sebastian had claimed. With that, the two of them left together.
Vanessa stood by the door with a frown. As she observed Millieâs and Laineyâs retreating figures, her face reflected a whirlwind of emotions.
âI canât believe how capable Dr. Caldwell is,â Hazel commented, her surprise evident. âDr. Xander, you couldnât resolve the problem, but Dr. Caldwell managed it without a hitch.â
Hazel shook her head in disbelief. On the other hand, Vanessaâs expression darkened upon hearing that.
âI guess we still donât know who will be promoted to deputy chief,â Hazel muttered.
Vanessaâs displeasure deepened with that remark. Without saying another word, she walked away.
Seeing that she was leaving, Hazel called out, âHey, Dr. Xander!â
Soon, Vanessa returned to her office. The moment her colleagues saw her, they teased, âOh, look! Dr. Xander, the deputy chief, is back!â
âCut it out,â Vanessa responded, taking her seat.
The others chuckled. âWhat do you mean? With Yoel gone, the deputy chief position is clearly yours!â
While flipping through her documents, Vanessa suddenly recalled Hazelâs words.
âI guess we still donât know who will be promoted to deputy chief.â
The thought left Vanessa feeling uneasy. She clenched the documents tightly and forcefully closed them.
Had she spent years waiting for this chance only for it to slip away from her?
