Chapter 383
At the hospital, Millie was waiting for the elevator when she suddenly bumped into Logan and Harriet. Their expressions immediately turned somber upon seeing her.
Millie thought it was best to let bygones be bygones. As long as the Lowells didnât cause trouble for her again, she didnât want to hold a grudge.
Harriet, feeling somewhat ashamed, turned away. She couldnât face Millie at all.
Without speaking to either of them, Millie entered the elevator. Once she was gone, Logan said, âMom, weâve learned our lesson. Letâs not target Millie anymore.â
Harriet let out a deep sigh, regret washing over her. She had indeed acted too rashly.
âLogan, Iâm really worried about your sister.â Harriet was truly frustrated.
A myriad of emotions flickered across Loganâs face. Hearing Joannaâs name brought Millie to mind.
Millie and Vanessa emerged together, both wearing white coats. Millie then expressed her gratitude, Thank you, Dr. Xander. I might have been left hanging all night if it werenât for you that day.â
âNo need to thank me. It was nothing,â Vanessa replied, shaking her head.
She continued, âDr. Caldwell, actually, the first person I called was Mr. Greer.â
Millie was surprised to hear that. It was no wonder Winston had come looking for her that day. It
turned out Vanessa had contacted him.
âWhen he learned about your situation, he was quite worried about you,â Vanessa said and observed Millieâs expression.
Millie remained calm and smiled faintly. âWell, that shows he has some decency left.â
If Winston werenât worried at all, it would prove he was utterly heartless, which was terrifying.
âDr. Caldwell, are you really ending things with Mr. Greer? Lalways thought you two were a perfect match. Joanna doesnât hold a candle to you,â Vanessa commented softly and gently
However, Millie merely smiled and brushed it off. She didnât want to talk about Winston anymore.
When they pushed open the conference room door, they saw Wanda packing her things.
âWhat are you doing?â Vanessa looked at Wanda, who appeared haggard.
Wanda had been Joannaâs Jackey. Now that Joanna was gone, she had no place there. Besides, she had become the departmentâs outcast. Although no one said anything to her face, Wanda knew they all branded her a lackey behind her back.
âCome on, time for rounds,â Lainey announced, tapping the door to get everyoneâs attention.
âComing!â

Everyone grabbed their patient files and followed Lainey to do the rounds.
âLetâs check on the patient admitted last night,â Lainey said as she opened the door to Room 2999.
Millie, following behind, saw the name on the chart. It was Sonny Alpers.
She looked over at the bed. The man lay there with his eyes closed, his face pallid.
Sonny? Wasnât this the guy Eli had asked her about? He was the one transferred from the prison, who started with food poisoning and then developed heart problems, wasnât he?
âDoes this patient have a doctor in charge?â Lainey asked, glancing back.
Vanessa seemed eager to take on Sonny, but Millie spoke first. âIâll handle him.â
Lainey glanced at her and replied, âAlright.â
âThis might be a tricky case. Are you sure you can handle it?â Vanessa asked with concern.
Millie nodded. âNo problem.â
âOkay, just let me know if you need any help,â Vanessa answered with a gentle smile.
Millie gestured an âokayâ before taking another look at the patient. Sonnyâ¦
Suddenly, she thought he looked familiar. Had she seen him somewhere before?
Millie frowned and covered half of his face with her hand. It seemed likeâ¦
âMillie, letâs go,â Lainey called out suddenly.
Millie turned and followed her, saying, âComing.
Yet, she couldnât resist looking back at Sonny again. He resembled the man behind Winstonâs abduction.
Unfortunately, Millie had only seen his eyes. She had no idea what he looked like or what his name
was.
Later, she was injured and was unconscious for a long time. When Millie woke up, she heard that the mastermind had been apprehended, so she didnât dwell on it.
