Chapter 394
Millle added, âEveryone in Yerwick knows Winston was kidnapped once.â
A hint of surprise flickered in Eliâs eyes. But it disappeared as quickly as it came after he heard what Millie said. Indeed, everyone was aware of Winstonâs abduction.
âMs. Caldwell, the butterfly tattoo on your back is beautiful,â Eli commented. âI donât remember seeing it before.â
Millie instinctively touched her back and let out a casual âOh.â As she pushed open the door of the ward, she replied, âI didnât have this tattoo before.â
She pointed inside. âThis is Sonnyâs ward.â
The nurses had already cleaned it, and it was now empty. Eli inspected the room thoroughly, checking every corner. Yet, he found nothing.
âAre you looking for something?â Millie asked him.
Eli hummed in response before asking, âDid you find anything that Sonny might have left behind while you were cleaning the bathroom?â
âNo.â Millie shook her head.
Eli fell silent for a moment. Then, he nodded lightly.
âWhat are you searching for? Can I help with anything?â Millie offered.
Eli sighed inwardly, his expression reflecting a mix of emotions. After that, he looked at Millie and decided to ask, âMs. Caldwell, Iâm not sure if I should ask this.â
âGo ahead,â Millie replied straightforwardly.
âDo you know your back-â Eli began, but his words were interrupted by the ringing of his phone.
He retrieved the device and told Millie, âSorry, I need to take this call.â
Millie nodded and quietly leaned against the headboard. What was Eli about to ask? Was he going to bring up the scar on her back? Why was he as fixated on its origin as Winston had been?
As the thought crossed her mind, Millieâs heart skipped a beat. Did this mean they were unaware that she had been the one who had saved Winston all those years ago?
After ending the call, Eli gently uttered, âMs. Caldwell, I have something to attend to. Weâll talk later.
âAlright.â Millie nodded and didnât say more.
Eli gave her one last look before sighing and striding out.
A male doctor in a white coat was waiting for Eli at the emergency department. As Eli approached, the doctor handed him a file, saying, âHereâs Ms. Lowellâs medical record.

âIt states that she was admitted with a severe back injury and significant blood loss that night. Dr. Newton was on the night shift, and he treated her.â
After saying that, the doctor suddenly pointed to another male doctor nearby and called out, âDr. Newton, come over here.â
Anthony Newton was a man in his 40s. He sported a crew cut and appeared to be a downâtoâearth
man.
âDr. Newton, this is Mr. Eli Barnes, Mr. Greerâs assistant,â the doctor introduced them.
He then asked Anthony, âDr. Newton, you were the one who treated Ms. Lowell after she was injured on the night Mr. Greer was abducted, right?â
Anthony sized Eli up. His gaze darkened slightly as he nodded and cautiously answered, âYes, the wound is on her right side. Here.â
Anthony pointed to the back of his shoulder and neck as he spoke. âThereâs a scar. Occasionally, she still comes in for checkâups, saying the wound still hurts.â
Eli stared intently at Anthony and asked in a low voice, âAre you sure about that?â
âOf course I am. Everyone at the hospital back then knew Ms. Lowell was the one who saved Mr. Greer,â Anthony responded with a hearty laugh.
His laughter felt oddly mismatched with his plain appearance.
âWhat about Ms. Caldwellâs medical records?â Eli asked the other doctor.
The doctor shook his head. âI searched for a long time but couldnât find it. There were no records of her at all for a month or two before and after Mr. Greerâs incident.â
Eli sighed. With the âLâ Sonny traced on Winstonâs palm and Joannaâs medical records, there seemed to be no point in wasting any more time on this matter.
