Chapter 414
Winston was about to offer to buy the bag for Joanna.
At that moment, the sales associate informed Joanna, âSorry, Ms. Lowell, but Ms. Caldwell has already bought this bag. This is the only one we have.â
Joanna frowned when she heard that. Millie, on the other hand, pursed her lips. She couldnât help but find the situation amusing. Their shared tastes in dresses, bags, and men were just infuriating.
âIâm sorry, but this bag is mine,â Millie said with a gentle smile.
Joannaâs frown deepened when she caught a hint of smugness in Millieâs eyes. She tightened her hold on Winstonâs arm. It was merely a bag. What was there to boast about? After all, she had Winston.
Seeing Joannaâs hand tightly gripping Winstonâs arm, Millie felt a wave of conflicted emotions. She had gained everything, yet she had lost the man she loved. She couldnât tell if her situation was a victory or a defeat.
The more Joanna looked at Millie, the more irritated she grew.
âMs. Caldwell, your bag is ready,â the sales associate announced.
Millie nodded in acknowledgment. Just as she was about to pay for it, Winston stepped forward and offered, âIâll handle it.â
Millieâs hand, which was about to hand over her credit card, was abruptly stopped. She looked up to see Winston presenting his black card instead.
After a brief pause, she glanced back instinctively. Joannaâs expression had turned as dark as it could possibly be.
Joanna clenched her right hand into a fist, baffled by Winstonâs decision to pay for Millie. He even pushed her hand away to make the payment.
She bit her lip, suppressed her dissatisfaction, and approached Winston. Smiling at Millie, she remarked, â Win is giving this to you, so you should accept it. You were once married to him, after all.â
Millie narrowed her eyes, while Joanna continued, âEven though youâre divorced, youâre still friends. Itâs nothing for Win to give you two bags. Donât be pressured, Millie.â
Millie said nothing.
Winston frowned slightly and commented in a low voice, âThereâs nothing more to it. Donât overthink.â
Joanna immediately held onto Winstonâs arm, her displeasure written on her face. She tried to establish her dominance as his future wife, but it was obvious he wasnât backing her up.
âThat wonât be necessary. Thank you, Mr. Greer.â
Millie returned Winstonâs card before passing hers to the sales associate. âCharge it to mine, please,â she said calmly.
Winstonâs lips parted to say something. However, upon seeing Millieâs cold demeanor, he wisely chose to stay silent.

Winston never paid for anything, and he never once fulfilled his role as a husband. He couldnât deny that he felt guilty toward Millie.
As he stared at her retreating figure, his gaze dimmed, and a wave of indescribable emotions washed over him. An overwhelming sense of guilt gnawed at Winston.
âWin,â Joanna called out softly.
Winston turned to look at her. âYeah?â
âAre you going to leave with her?â Joanna asked, her voice tinged with disappointment.
Winston kept his eyes on Millie, and Joanna couldnât shake the feeling that he was emotionally distant. It was as if his attention was slipping away with her.
âWhat do you want? Iâll buy it for you.â Winston avoided the question.
Joanna bit her lip and scoffed. âI donât want to be a trophy wife. I can buy things for myself too.â
Winstonâs lips curled into a faint smile. âAre you upset?â
Seeing his smile, Joanna continued to act coy. âHmph!â
After all, it was not often she got to see him smile.
âAlright, Iâll buy everything for you, okay?â
Having said that, Winston handed his credit card to the sales associate and said calmly, âWrap it all up and have them delivered to the Lowell Manor.â
As Joanna observed him, a surge of possessiveness welled up within her. She silently vowed to hold onto Winston even tighter.
Right then, Winstonâs phone suddenly chimed. He glanced at the screen and saw that it was a text. Paxton: âUncle Winston, Millie just asked me out for a meal!â
