Millie turned and watched Winston walk away, her expression growing more troubled.
When Winston glanced back and met Millieâs eyes, it seemed like he had something to say. But in the end, he chose to chase after Joanna.
Millie remained quiet. A moment later, she chuckled wryly. What was all this about?
When she looked up again, she saw Paxton standing before her. The young man awkwardly scratched his head, looking somewhat helpless.
Millie approached him and said, âLetâs finish this meal,â
Whether the Aspher was his or Winstonâs, her purpose today was to treat them to a meal.
Winston probably thought that if he were the one offering the Aspher, Millie wouldnât accept them. But he was overthinking it.
For something relevant to Laylaâs research, she was extremely cautious. She wouldnât let any personal grudges interfere with the researchâs success.
Even if Winston had been the one to offer the herb that day, Millie would have accepted it, though she would have raised the price.
âAunt Millie,â Paxton suddenly called out. His way of addressing Millie left her momentarily stunned.
Millie smiled wryly and asked, âHow are you related to Winston?â
âWinston is my uncle, and Iâm his nephew,â Paxton answered with a shrug.
Millie forced a smile. After spending three years with the Greers and knowing Winston for many years, she had just learned he had a nephew.
To top it off, this nephew of his was undeniably handsome, perfectly fitting the Greer familyâs distinctive
look.
âAunt Millie, who was that woman earlier?â Paxton asked, clearly looking for some gossip.
Millie sipped her water and replied, âIâm not your Aunt Millie anymore.â
âI donât like her,â Paxton bluntly added.
Millie glanced at him but chose to remain silent.
A second later, he suddenly asked, âAunt Millie, if Uncle Winston had been the one delivering the Aspher, would you have accepted it?â
Millie, who had been looking down, raised her head. Would she accept it? Of course, she would. Like what she said before, she wouldnât jeopardize the research.
âYes, I would,â Millie replied calmly. Fearing that Paxton might ask more questions, she quickly asked, You donât like Joanna, do you?â
âExactly. Sheâs so annoying. I think sheâs insincere and full of herself! She doesnât even really care about Uncle Winston. If she thinks sheâs going to be my aunt, she can dream on.â Paxton sneered.

Despite being just 17 or 18, his appearance was already strikingly sharp and handsome. He was genuinely goodâlooking.
âAnd what about me?â Millie teased, pointing at herself with a knowing look as if setting a trap.
She merely smiled. Paxton, on the other hand, was at a loss. He scratched his head and didnât know what
to say.
Noticing his discomfort, Millie decided to let him off the hook. After all, he was still a teenager.
âIâm taking my leave now. Iâll cover the bill,â Millie said as she stood up. By that point, she had lost her appetite.
Although she had said she would definitely accept the Aspher from Winston, she couldnât shake the feeling that something was off that day.
âAunt Millie, you havenât finished these dishes,â Paxton reminded her.
Millie hummed in acknowledgment. âWe should pack it up to go.â
She then said, âAnd donât call me Aunt Millie anymore. Winston and I are divorced.â
With that, Millie walked away without a backward glance.
It started to drizzle outside. Millie tilted her head up to feel the gentle droplets on her face. She rubbed her shoulder, where an old injury still throbbed faintly.
