And now, the mere sight of Joanna made Sean feel sick. The audacity she had to take credit for Millieâs heroic act! Did she really think she could get away with it forever?
Sean couldnât help but think Millie was a fool. Why hadnât she told Winston that she was the one who
saved him?
âMills, would you mind stepping out for a bit? I need to discuss something with Mr. Stringer,â Joanna said with a gentle smile.
Millie shrugged. She wasnât keen on staying where Joanna was anyway.
âIn that case, Iâll-â
Millie was just about to leave when Seanâs icy voice cut in. âIf you have something to say, just spit it out. Why should my friend leave?
âMillie, this is my ward. Stay as long as you want. Unless, of course, sheâs planning to say something she doesnât want anyone else to know about.â
Seanâs words were sharp and direct.
Joanna was somewhat bewildered. Where did all this fury come from?
Millie, on the other hand, was even more astonished. She could hardly believe it. After all these years, it was the first time she had ever felt this confident in front of someone.
âItâs fine. Iâll head out for now and come back to see you later,â Millie remarked with a smile. She then gently patted Seanâs arm before leaving.
Joanna noticed the gesture, and her expression darkened instantly. When did Millie and Sean get this
close?
âSheâs gone now, so what is it you want to say?â Sean questioned, clearly displeased.
He had serious matters to discuss with Millie, but Joanna had barged in and sent her away. Who did Joanna think she was?
As soon as Millie left, Joannaâs expression changed drastically. She glared at Sean and demanded, âWhat were you going to tell Millie just now?â
âHow is that any of your business?â Sean retorted.
He had never liked Joanna, not even as a kid. She always acted so delicate and threw tantrums whenever they met.
When Sean left the country, Joanna and Winston hadnât even met. Yet somehow, she managed to get close to him.
âAre you planning to tell Millie that I took her place and claimed to save Winston?â Joanna lifted her chin arrogantly.
Sean narrowed his eyes. âSo, youâre aware youâre the imposter, huh?â
âAnd what about it?â Joanna shot back, her tone even more haughty.

Sean chuckled, his tone dripping with sarcasm as he replied, âJoanna, youâre shameless. You took credit for Millieâs action and deceived Win, yet you still have the nerve to act all high and mighty?â
Joanna bit her lip and clenched her right hand into a fist. âSean Stringer, if you know whatâs good for you, youâll keep this under wraps!â
âAre you asking me to help you lie to Win?â Sean asked curiously.
Before Joanna could respond, Sean continued, âJoanna, no secret stays hidden forever. Sooner or later, your dirty deeds will come to light!â
Joanna sneered, âThatâs a problem for later.â
Once she married Winston and sealed their fates, what could he possibly do to her?
Sean pressed his lips together and said calmly, âI wonât help you cover this up.â
Joanna immediately balled her fists. âSean, I-â
âDonât even think about threatening me,â Sean interrupted sharply, not giving her a chance to speak.â Joanna, Iâm Sean Stringer, heir to the Stringer family. Do you really think you can intimidate me? Youâve definitely crossed the line.â
âSo what if youâre Sean Stringer? Since Iâve managed to stay by Winstonâs side all this time, Iâm sure I can make him love me forever!â Joanna stomped her foot in frustration.
Sean was clearly unaffected by her threats. Even though the Lowells were one of the Four Great Families, they were nothing compared to the Stringers.
âWake up, Joanna. Winston has never loved you.â
