Now that Millie was interested in taking over the company, Terrence was thrilled. Meanwhile, Julia firmly believed that one day, her daughter would follow in her footsteps and become a designer.
âSo, when are you leaving?â Layla asked.
Millie glanced at the time and replied, âMy flight is at eight tonight, and Iâll head to the airport at 5:00 pm.â
âThat soon?â Layla was taken aback.
Millie nodded. âI want to get settled in for a few days before classes begin and meet with the professors. Since Iâve made up my mind, thereâs no reason to drag this out.â
Layla didnât respond. Millie could tell her grandmotherâs thoughts were somewhere else. Layla was reluctant to let her go regardless of what she chose to study. After all, her family were the ones who loved her most in the world.
Right then, Arthur, who had remained quiet so far, let out a sigh. âJust go then.â
His words drew a scoff from Layla. âAre you going to cover the cost of her studying abroad? Thatâs a lot of money!â
âYes, Iâll pay! I can afford to support Millie!â Arthur slammed his hand on the table.
Millie couldnât help but chuckle. Her grandparents were the same as ever, bickering over the smallest things. But she knew it was all because they had her best interests at heart.
âWomen should be spoiled. Iâll transfer the money to you right now!â Arthur declared.
Just as he was about to reach for his phone, Millie stopped him. âGrandpa, Iâve got enough money for now. Iâll come to you when I need more, okay? But promise me youâll stop hanging out with the psychic.â
Arthurâs expression froze. Why couldnât she just let it go?
Millieâs lips curled into a faint smile as a silence settled over the dining table. After that, no one said a
word.
After lunch, Millie started cleaning up in the kitchen. Julia followed her in, silently observing her daughter.
Each time Millie glanced at Julia, she could sense her motherâs reluctance.
Still, Julia knew it was for the best. It was important for Millie to grow and broaden her perspectives. That way, she wouldnât waste her time on some jerk or spend her life in misery.
Suddenly, Laylaâs phone rang. There was an issue at the lab that demanded her presence.
She bade Millie farewell. It was clear that Layla was reluctant to leave, yet she didnât utter a word. She remained as stubborn as ever.
At 5:00 pm, Marvin arrived to pick up Millie.
As Millie said her final goodbyes to her family, she kept the farewells brief and left swiftly. She didnât want them to see her off, fearing she might be overwhelmed by emotions.

Chapter 480
While on the road, Millie reached into her coat pocket and found a credit card. It was her grandparentsâ supplementary card.
She clutched it tightly and broke down. As she lowered her head, her tears fell onto the card.
Watching the scenery blur past, Millie felt a sharp pain in her heart. Her grip on the card tightened, and memories from the past few years replayed in her mind like a film on a loop.
Millie couldnât help but wonder what kind of perfect ending could ever make up for all the struggles she had endured.
âWin, youâre awake.â
In the ward, Joanna leaned over the bed and held Winstonâs arm with one hand. Winston slowly opened his eyes before closing them again.
As dusk fell, a nurse checked on him, then called out into the hallway, âCall Dr. Lloyd. Mr. Greer has woken up.â
Winston frowned at Joanna, his head throbbing with pain. It was as though she was still swaying on the water. 1
Before Sebastian could arrive, Eli appeared.
âEliâ¦â Joanna quickly jumped to her feet, biting her lip as she nervously glanced at Eli.
Eli smirked when he saw her. How dare she show up here?
In the next instant, he shut the door and locked it. His actions sent a shiver of fear through Joanna.
