Chapter 481
âEli, you⦠Is everything at the company taken care of?â Joanna asked gently with a smile, her hands clasped behind her back.
However, Eli didnât even spare her a glance. Instead, he approached the bed and greeted Winston respectfully, âMr. Greer.â
Winston hummed in acknowledgment. Joanna, on the other hand, furrowed her brow, visibly nervous.
Why had Eli shown up now, of all times? He even locked the door. Was- he about to reveal everything? What should she do if he told Winston the truth?
Out of the corner of his eye, Winston noticed Joannaâs growing unease. She had been acting strangely ever since Eli had entered the ward.
Joanna bit her lip. If she were to confess to Winston now, would their years of friendship be enough to earn his forgiveness? The thought of it left her feeling deeply unsettled.
âMr. Greer, I have something to report.â Eliâs tone was serious as he met Winstonâs gaze.
Winston took a sip of water and gestured for him to proceed. He couldnât help but feel grateful to have someone as capable as Eli supporting him. No matter what happened, Eli always had his back.
âWin,â Joanna began, interrupting Eli.
Eli glanced at her, and she responded with a strained smile. âEli, Win just woke up. If this is about work, maybe-â
âItâs not workârelated. Itâs a personal matter,â Eli said with a smile, effectively silencing Joanna.
Joanna clenched her hands, and her eyelashes fluttered slightly.

She tried to speak again, âIf itâs personal, thenâ¦â
Winston asked, âJoanna, are you feeling unwell? If so, you should return to your ward and get some rest. Eli and I need to talk.â
Joannaâs expression stiffened. She couldnât leave, not now.
She gave Winston a meaningful look. Her lips parted slightly as if to speak. However, she struggled to find the words.
Winston simply stared at her, patiently waiting for her to continue.
Right then, Eli slowly uttered, âLet me handle it.â
âNo! Eli, you canât!â Joanna suddenly lost her composure, and her voice took on a sharper edge.
Winston frowned deeply. He couldnât shake the feeling that something was amiss. Were Eli and Joanna hiding something from him?
âWhatâs wrong? Did something happen?â Winston asked.
He suddenly felt concerned for Joanna. Although he hadnât married her or given her an official status, she had saved his life. Hence, he couldnât help but worry if she was hurt or unwell.
Eli arched his brow and asked, âMs. Lowell, are you planning to explain it?â
âIâ¦â Joannaâs breathing became rapid as her heart pounded violently.
It was all far too sudden. She hadnât even figured out how to admit to Winston that she wasnât the person who saved him. None of this was part of her plan. What was she supposed to do now?
What if Winston discovered that Joanna had claimed credit for Millieâs bravery, disrupting his life and leading to their breakup? Wouldnât he hate Joanna for it?

A wave of anxiety washed over Joanna, and she found herself unable to speak.
Eli stared at Joanna coldly, his expression somber. After all, this was Winston, his boss. And his employer had been deceived by a woman for so long.
Frustrated with the two of them, Winston put down what he was holding, glared at Eli, and demanded, âJust tell me already! Why are you dragging this out?â
But the more he pressed for answers, the more anxious and distressed Joanna became.
Was Eli really not going to give her any chance at all? She could offer him things he might never achieve in his lifetime.
âEli, have you really thought this through?â Joanna moved closer to Eli and blocked him. âI can fulfill any of your demands. You⦠Just think it over!â
