Eli let out a sigh and urged the driver to drive faster.
After Winston withdrew his hand, he rolled up the car window. As the car slowly grew warmer, the coldness in Winstonâs heart began to spread through his body, as if it were ready to consume him.
From initially avoiding her to now deeply regretting it, he unjustly blamed Millie and failed her over the past three years.
Winston gazed out the window, his bloodshot eyes and silence speaking volumes of his repentance. He couldnât imagine what it would be like to marry Joanna, who had deceived him for three years.
It was clear that Millie was the one who had truly saved him, and it was she who deserved all his gratitude. The very idea made Winston clench his fists in regret.
After a while, they reached the airport.
The scene beside the lines of taxis outside was very eyeâcatching. Some were rushing with their luggage and umbrellas, while others hurriedly boarded taxis in the rain. Some embraced each other, while some quietly wiped away their tears in the rain.
Winston hurriedly stepped out of the car. Eli tried to shield him from the rain with an umbrella but struggled to keep up.
Nevertheless, Winston realized it didnât make a difference as he was already soaked. He didnât care about looking a bit more disheveled.
Eli walked behind Winston at Yerwick Airport. It was a huge airport, and they had to walk a long way to the boarding gate after going through security. Eli had informed the airport personnel beforehand, so they could go through the security directly.
The crowd in the airport gradually slowed their pace, but Winston was

walking even faster. All eyes turned to him, filled with disbelief. Finally, someone couldnât resist and blurted out, âIs that Winston Greeer?â
âHe resembles him, but Winston Greer shouldnât be so disheveled, donât you think? Just look at his clothes; theyâre completely drenched!â
âThatâs right. Winston always looked very cool and tidy.â
They smiled at each other and quickly passed by Winston, proceeding on their journey.
After going through the security check, Winston felt so lost for the first time in the bustling airport.
âDonât worry. Iâm an adult, and I can take care of myself.â Millie reassured Julia during their video call. She felt a little sad. She left home again, but this time it was to embrace a better version of herself.
Millie looked elegant, capable, and beautiful in a white sweater paired with a gray trench coat. Julia stayed silent during the phone conversation for a while before eventually letting out a snort.
Millie chuckled. âMom, I promise to stay in contact with you. Iâll make sure to visit as soon as I have some time off, okay?â
âAlright,â Julia replied.
Millie grinned. âHas Grandma made it home yet? Itâs pouring today.â
âSheâs still working at the research lab, so she hasnât returned. But she did call to let me know sheâll be back soon. She got a cold from being caught in the rain, so she asked your grandpa to make her some tea.â
Millie asked, âDid Grandpa fall asleep again? Grandma couldnât reach him, so she reached out to you?â
Julia nodded. âExactly. When is the plane taking off? Do you want to

return and change your ticket?
âI checked the weather forecast, and it seems that the rain will stop soon,â replied Millie..
Millie glanced at her watch. There were only 30 minutes left until her flight.
The airline should announce soon whether the flight will take off or not. The boarding announcement hadnât been made yet, so there was a possibility of further delays.
âAlright then,â Julia said wearily.
âOkay. Bye, Mom.â Millie nodded and hung up the phone.
Millie was about to feel sad when someone gave her a cup of hot coffee and said, âHere.â
