Chapter 5032: Shadowriderâs Origin
Nightwalker was the revered commanding god of Mist. No one expected this connection between Nightwalker and Shadowrider.
One was a demon while the other was a human from an unknown assassin organization. They were so far apart and most importantly, the commanding gods couldnât leave Demon.
Others would be shocked to hear this. Of course, Shadowrider wasnât lying about this matter.
Li Qiye chuckled and wasnât surprised at all.
âLooks like your lineage is rather capable.â Li Qiye smiled and sat there like an old friend.
His attitude only frightened Shadowrider even more, not knowing his intentions. Even his true body couldnât do anything against Li Qiye.
After two exchanges, he had a good idea of Li Qiyeâs power. This was someone above the level of the lower continents with the exception of Conceal Conqueror.
âJust tell me what you want, I will try my best to fulfill your request.â He surrendered.
âLet me ask a question first. I heard the schoolmaster mention something about a particular job in the dark market back then, you should have been the one accepting it.â Li Qiye said.
âI see.â Shadowrider said: âThis was all a trap for me.â
Li Qiye shrugged: âThe result would have been the same. It would only take me more time to find you.â
âYes.â He nodded and admitted: âI accepted the job and not just one, we worked together afterward.â
âWho hired you?â Li Qiye inquired.
âDonât ask me, I have no idea.â He smiled wryly.
âReally now?â Li Qiyeâs eyes narrowed while gazing at him: âI will pry all of your memories out of your head and watch them, second by second.â
âIâm telling the truth. I donât know who this person is.â He said: âI was responsible for either stopping or killing any target who tried to escape. Thatâs all I know, it was just a job.â
The details didnât matter to him since he was an assassin, only the payment.
âSeveral big shots have died because of our work.â He added.
Li Qiye continued to stare at him and he went on: âI personally know of Sword Lord and Void Saint Child.â
Li Qiye still didnât speak but this was enough to force him to speak: âThatâs really the extent of my knowledge. Though we worked together, I was responsible for keeping an eye out for runners.â
âA guard dog.â Li Qiye chuckled.
âThatâs one way to put it. I didnât care about the target or the details.â He didnât mind the insult.
âAnd what about Phenomena Conqueror?â Li Qiye asked.
âWhat do you mean?â He paused for a second.
âDonât worry about anything else, just answer this first, was Phenomena Conqueror one of the victims?â Li Qiye asked.
He hesitated for a moment before answering: âI only know of Sword Lord and Void Saint Child, I didnât see Phenomena Conqueror.â
âBut you reacted earlier, you know more than this.â Li Qiye smiled.
âI am an assassin who operates in the shadow but I will not defame others.â It took a while before he answered this time.
âItâs just you and me here.â Li Qiye said: âYouâre merely expressing an opinion, not accusing anyone of anything.â
âI believe the person who hired me might be a conqueror.â He eventually revealed.
âNow thatâs more interesting.â Li Qiye stroked his chin and said: âGo on.â
âIâve never seen the person, rather mysterious. I just know that I am far weaker.â He said: âThough everything was hidden, my intuition tells me that it is a powerful conqueror.â
âA conqueror hiring an assassin.â Li Qiye commented.
âItâs a bit ridiculous, no one will believe it, but Iâm sure of it.â He said.
âItâs the reason why youâre still alive. Even if you want to expose this secret, no one will believe you.â Li Qiye said.
âTrue.â He said.
Conquerors were supreme beings, whether they be from The Race or The People. They represented the apex of the dao.
They were worthy of respect. Though some were mass murderers, they always did it in an open manner. People would believe the words of a conqueror over that of an assassin.
âHmmâ¦â Li Qiye pondered the possibilities.
Shadowrider hesitated for a moment, opened his mouth as if to speak, and then closed it again.
âWhich conqueror, in your opinion?â Li Qiye asked.
â... I donât know, I lack details.â He shook his head.
In reality, there werenât that many choices to pick from in the lower continents.
âArenât you curious about it?â Li Qiye smirked.
âBeing an assassin is just a profession, I donât need to be one so itâs not really any of my business.â He said.
âWhy is that?â Li Qiye stared at him.
He was afraid of Li Qiyeâs gaze and spilled everything: âI only want to keep this lineage going, thatâs all, I donât have to be an assassin.â
