After that Tuesday, I didn't feel that I had to deal with everything on my own. With this in mind, the rest of the week seemed to just fly by, and today my family was getting together. Maybe today will be the day that I can finally tell Dad and everyone else excluding Catherine that I am dating. With everything that has been going on, I just didn't know when the right time would be to throw it at them.
Closing my locker, I wanted to see Zach before I go, because I probably won't be able to see him this weekend. Turning around, I then saw her. There was this girl I didn't know standing behind me with her head down. I felt myself kind of tense, was she one of Amanda's friends coming to get me back or something. The fact that I never seen this girl before, I was kind of weary of her, and she lifted her head.
Two bright green eyes, that's what I was staring in. A slow smile then formed on her face, and she held her arm.
"Um... hi Melissa."
"Hi..."
"You probably don't know me, my name is Marie."
She seemed kind of nervous rubbing her arm, glancing around, and then looking down. Marie was around my height with black hair that was pulled back in a bun.
"So Marie... is there something you wanted?"
She snapped her head up, and I suddenly saw this determined expression on her face. What?
"You see Melissa, I'm a very timid person, and because of that a lot of people tend to walk over me. I always hated that about myself, because I never had a true friend before."
"I see."
Leaning back against the lockers, I didn't want to really rush her, but if I stay here too long, I won't be able to see Zach before I leave.
"I've seen you around before. You were quiet, didn't look around, or even really speak. I kind of was really curious about you, because it was like you had an invisible field around you, and no one saw you. However, I noticed you changed lately."
My eyes kind of widen at her statement for a moment.
"Change?"
"Yeah, you're more open, and you talk to people now. I was kind of amazed how much you really changed, and I wanted to know how."
"How?"
"Yes, how do you change so much in so little time. I want to change from the person that I am now. I hate who I am, I hate the weak me, and I want to change into someone more like... you."
I was astonished at what Marie was telling me, scratching the back of my head for a moment, I gave her a little smile. I know I've kind of changed, but I didn't know it was that noticeable. I wonder how I can tell her, because the main reason I kind of changed is, because of Zach. She was staring at me with a helpless face.
"Well Marie, I was kind of tired of getting walked on. But the true reason I really changed is, because I started dating someone."
"You mean Zach, right?"
"Yeah."
"I see."
Looked down, and I was kind of confused whether I helped her a little or not. Her head then snapped up, and taking my hands giving them a good squeeze.
"I don't really know how to take that step though, but I hope we can become friends."
Friends... I really never had a friend, before. Especially a girl, and I gave her a little smile.
"Sure, we can be friends."
A big smile formed on her face, and she nodded her head up, and down, before letting my hands go.
"Well I'll see you Monday."
Turning she waved, before running back down the hall. Wow that was kind of strange, but I made a move to go, and look for Zach. It didn't take long to find him, well more like he found me. Scaring me by grabbing me behind, I gave him a dirty look, after calming my heart.
"You jerk."
"Sorry, sorry, but I was looking for you."
"Really?"
"Yeah."
Turning around, I gave him a little smile, before I was the pulled around the corner. We were out of sight, and he leaned down pulling me into a deep kiss. Brushing his tongue over my lips, I gave him access, before running my hands through his hair. My back was pressed against the wall, but it still was like we couldn't get any closer. Grabbing my hips, he pressed me closer into him, before pulling away.
Staring into his eyes, I wrapped my arms around his neck, before pressing our lips into a soft kiss. I could feel him smile into it, before pulling away giving me a hug. Taking him in, I smiled closing my eyes squeezing him tightly, like I didn't want to let go.
"Come on, you'll miss your bus."
"Ok."
Pulling away, I gave him a little smile, before waving and we separated. Walking to the bus, my mind went elsewhere. I wonder how Dad is going to take this, maybe they'll all take it well. Sitting on the bus, I wonder what we are going to do today. Soon I got to my stop, and I got off the bus. Walking to the house, I saw that some cars were in the yard. Dad must be home, and maybe Aunt Cali is here as well.
Going into the house, I closed the door behind me, before I went to the kitchen. There was Dad, Aunt Cali, and Nana. It seemed they all were drinking coffee, like don't people only do that kind of thing in the mornings. Dad caught sight of me first, before he smiled putting his cup down.
"Hey honey."
"Hey guys."
Walking toward them, I gave each a kiss on the cheek. I noticed that Catherine wasn't here, maybe she was somewhere else in the house.
"So what's up?"
"Well we were waiting for you to get home, first."
"Oh ok."
This may be the right time, and I rung my hands together. I was kind of nervous now, and I bit my lower lip.
"What's wrong baby?"
Looking up, Nana was staring at me with a knowing look, and I took a deep breath.
"Listen there is something that I have to tell y'all."
They all turned their attention to me, and Dad raised his eyebrow in confusion for a minute, while Aunt Cali had a smirk on her face giving me a knowing look as well.
"Alright you have our attention, what's the matter?"
Dad was tarting to look kind of worried, but I just shook my head, and gave a little smile.
"It's nothing bad Dad so don't worry. The truth is that I'm actually dating someone."
There was a silent pause, before a warm smile formed on Aunt Cali face, and Nana just picked up her coffee sipping it. I however, noticed how Dad was kind of frozen in place, and I bit my lip.
"Dad?"
"How long?"
"Huh?"
"How long have you been together?"
"Um... Not long barely two weeks."
Aunt Cali then clapped her hands together, with a big smile on her face.
"Ok change in plans, let's cook a dinner and invite him over."
"What?"
I don't think he's ready for that, and neither do I. Looking at them in panic, I bit my lower lip staring at them.
"Don't worry Melissa, we won't do anything embarrassing, right Malcolm?"
Looking at Dad, he was frowning, but he then nodded his head as well. I could tell he was in deep thought.
"It doesn't have to be today."
"Of course it does, we're all here, and it's the perfect time."
Frowning, I stared at Aunt Cali trying to make up an excuse.
"Yes, tell him to come over. I want to meet him."
Staring at Dad shocked, I then dropped my head in defeat. Man what if he can't make it, and I slowly left out of the room. Moving upstairs, I went to my room, and sat down on my bed pulling out my cellphone. Maybe he won't answer, and I put it to my calling, sadly luck was on my side, and he answered after the first ring.
"Hey babe."
There it was again, he called me babe, and I bit my lip.
"Hey, what are you doing right now?"
"Nothing bored, why?"
"Well I told my family about us."
"Hmm. What did they say?"
"They want you to come over for dinner."
It became quiet on the line, and I chewed on my bottom lip.
"What time?"
"Huh?"
"What time you want me to come over?"
"Ok."
"You'll come?"
"Yeah, so wear something pretty for me babe."
I could feel my cheeks turning red, before I glanced down at the bed.
"Ok."
"Wait what?"
"I'll wear something pretty, so come around six."
"Mkay, see you then."
"Bye."
Hanging up the phone, I leaned back, before rubbing my eyes. I could still feel my cheeks burning from blushing, and I then jumped up. Walking down stairs, everyone was in the living room now, and I bit my lower lip.
"He said he'd make it."
"Oh good, we'll start cooking, come on ma."
"If I must."
They smiled, and I then glanced at Catherine for a moment, before grabbing her hand pulling her out of the room.
"Wow, what's wrong?"
"I need you to help me pick out something to wear."
No matter how'd it sound, I was really nervous. This is the first time he would be meeting my family so I wanted to look nice. Besides I already told him I would wear something pretty.
