âArrange for Mr. Beckett to meet the suspect right away, Cyrus!â Orion instructed.
Everyone was shocked.
Was it that easy?
âYes, captain.â Cyrus was stunned by how smoothly it went.
âBut Jeffrey is a dangerous man. It might not be safe to see him alone, Mr. Beckett. Let Cyrus go with you,â Orion said.
âNo need,â Jasper replied calmly.
âItâs alright, Captain Holt.. Mr. Beckett is far more skilled than Cyrus and Jeffrey combined,â Alyssa said with a smile. âYou best send more officers to watch over Jeffrey if Mr. Beckett gets angry. I fear Jeffrey might end up losing his life in the station.â
Alyssa couldnât let Jeffrey die before everything came to an end-not yet.
Cyrus and two officers waited outside the detention center while. Alyssa and Jasper went inside to speak to Jeffrey.
Some time went past before Jeffrey was lugged before them. He was cuffed and clad in prisonerâs garb behind the bars.
âFancy seeing you here,â Jeffrey snickered and sat on the metal chair. He leered at Alyssa and teased, âDid you miss me, Ms. Alyssa?â
Alyssaâs expression was frosty. Though angry, she was able to control herself.
But Jasperâs anger had reached boiling point. His jaw was clenched tight as he glared at Jeffrey. He bristled like some caged animal, ready to lunge forth at any time.
Just then, Alyssa held Jasperâs trembling hand underneath the table.
Her firm grip steadied Jasperâs being, sending a curious calmness throughout his body. It quickly stabilized his emotions..
âHurry up and get to the point. I want to get back to sleep,â Jeffrey continued. He was clearly not interested in cooperating with them.
âWeâve come here to talk about working with you, Jeffrey,â Alyssa began, using a more acceptable term.
âWork with me? Do you think Iâm an idiot, Ms. Alyssa? I nearly died under both your hands. You two want to work with me? What nonsense!â Jeffrey scoffed.
âYou didnât succeed in killing us, though you wanted to, did you?â Alyssa asked with a faint smile.
Jeffreyâs brows furrowed.
He was a mercenary, a trained hitman. Alyssaâs words were insulting his expertise.
She continued, âYou know very well that the laws in my country only sentence criminals of the gravest offenses to a maximum of 20 years. in prison. Do you really want to stay behind bars for that long?
âYouâd be 60 by the time you return to Tsulu. Would you still have your support back there? Youâll still have to be imprisoned in Tsulian jail when you go back at the old age of 60. You know just how terrible the prison conditions there are. Do you think youâd survive?â
Alyssaâs words struck every one of Jeffreyâs weak points. She was a natural mediator.
Jasper clasped her hand silently as he watched her speak. His gaze was filled with admiration and tenderness.
Jeffreyâs smile froze momentarily on his face.
Alyssa struck while the iron was hot.
She said, âWe know Sophia was the one who instructed you to do this. Things wouldnât have ended up the way they did otherwise. Our number one enemy is Sophia, not you. Now that youâre arrested and at risk of imprisonment, Sophia continues living her life freely out int the world. Itâs as if the consequences youâre suffering today have nothing to do with her. Can you live with that?â
