âYeah, heâs not worth it.â Alyssa mumbled in a daze.
Landon inhaled sharply. He had a heartache seeing the shattered look in her eyes.
âAlice, why donât we try it out?â
Alyssaâs brows knitted tightly.
âTake your time to accept me. Iâm no gentleman, but Iâm willing to try for your sake!â
At the very least, he believed he would be better to her than Jasper.
âLandon, Iâm exhausted. Please donât put me in a difficult place.â She glanced at him dejectedly.
âAlice. His breath grew shallow. He felt sorry for her.
âItâs late. I really want to go to bed. You should go home soon.â She shoved him aside and dragged herself into the bedroom.
âAre you and Jonah a thing? Whatâs your relationship with him? Are you dating him seriously or using him to get back at Jaspery She was taken aback by Landonâs pointed questions and curled her fists. âThatâs none of your business.â
âI donât see any trace of him in your villa. If heâs really your boyfriend, why isnât there a pair of menâs slippers at the door? Why did he not leave anything behind?â
âIâll repeat myself. This is none of your business. Stay out of it.â
âAlice, please donât hurt yourself with silly decisions!â He pleaded bitterly and fervently.
She pursed her lips and left without turning back.
It took Jasper two hours to drive home to Seaview Manor from Alyssaâs house, a journey that normally took an hour.
He almost lost focus of the road due to his excruciating headache and the low visibility in the rain. He was close to getting into a car accident twice.
Back at the manor, he busted open his study door and swept the glasses and files on his table in a frantic search for pills. When he finally found the bottle, he swallowed a pill without water.
Despite taking double the usual dosage, his headache did not go away.
âHad I known you were such a jerk, I wouldnât have married you!â
As Aliceâs resentful words echoed in his mind, he groaned and curled into a ball. He was sweating all over from the massive headache.
Mrs. Rosie, who heard the commotion, rushed into the study. Tears came to her eyes when she found Jasper in pain. âMr. Jasper, what happened? Are you having a headache again?â
Jasper couldnât think straight and stammered, âAlice AâAlice White-
*Mr. Jasper, hang on! Iâll get you the family doctor!â The pale Mrs. Rosle dashed out of the study when the phone buzzed incessantly. It was an incoming call from an unknown number.
âWho is this?â
âMrs. Rosie, itâs me.â Mrs. Rosie heard a soft female voice.
âMâMadam Alice, is that you?â She covered her mouth in disbelief.
âYes, itâs me, Alice.â
âThatâs great!â Mrs. Rosie wiped away her tears between sobs. âPâPlease help Mr. Jasper. His His headache is back! Heâs in so much pain that heâs speaking nonsense now! He did not relapse when you were with him. His headache worsened once he left you. What do we do?â
âMrs. Kose, do not panic. Listen to me.â
Alyssa breathed deeply and explained clearly. âGo to my room and find a silver box in my bedside drawer. I have a set of silver needles that I treated his headache with. Youâll find a notebook underneath the box with the treatment details and the acupoints. Youâve learned a little acupuncture before, so I presume it isnât difficult for you?â
âYes Yes! I know acupuncture. Iâll get the needles right now!â
âBy the way. Mr. Jasper has been hurt tonight from a branch hitting him on his back. He didnât say a word about it, but Iâm sure it is a serious injury. I have some creams and medical ointments in the drawer. Please apply them to his wound. If it doesnât heal in a few days. bring him to the doctor immediately.â
âGot it. Iâve noted it down, Madam Alice.â Feeling upset, Mrs. Rosie wiped away more tears. Why did Mr. Jasper let go of a lovely woman Like Alice?
âOne last thing.â After a pause, Alyssa said with a sigh, âDo not tell Mr. Jasper that I called you tonight.
Please.â
