âFind Lianaâs daughter. I need to set thebait beforehand, though.âAlyssa narrowed her eyes slyly.âCurtis said only Lianaâs mother, Rosaline, knows her whereabouts, so weâll have to let her lead the way for us.â
Jonah smiled. What about Liana Gardner? 11 âThose whom God wishes to destroy, hefirst makes mad.â Alyssa sat back, yawning.âIsnât she about to marry Jasper Beckett? We canât make her crash and burn without first letting her sit in the high seat.â
Jonah pursed his lips, suddenly recalling what Curtis had said earlier.âJasper Beckett is a blind, foolish man, Lyse.â
âI couldnât care less. Iâve regained mysight regardless, so heâd better stay out of my way.â
Alyssa took out her phone, recalling the pictures she had taken of Jameson from days ago.âBy the way, see if you recognize this guy. He saved me from a potentially serious injury when Curtis attacked earlier today.â
âReally?â Jonah said, âWeâll have toproperly thank him then.â
âBut he has been quite mysterious andsecretive about his identity. Yet, he seems to know who I am!â
Alyssa recalled the handsome young man with his gold-rimmed spectacles.
Although she was a woman, she possessed a sense of possessiveness usually associated with men.
Whatever Alyssa intended to know or acquire, she never allowed them to elude her grasp.
Jonah leaned in closer to look at the picture on her phone. In the next moment, he gasped.
âDo you really not remember him, Lyse?â
âHuh?âAlyssa cocked her head.âShould I?11 âYou two hung out all the time when youwere kids.â
âWhat?âAlyss a frowned, then squinted atthe picture. The man did feel familiar to her, but she couldnât pinpoint where she had seen him or who he was.
âHeâs Uncle Victorâs youngest son,Jameson Schimdt. You used to be really shy, but you still became his friend and played with him when you two were kids. Do you really not remember?â
âHeâs ⦠Little Bastard?â Alyssa cried outin shock.âHot damn! Heâs so tall now!â
â¦
The air in Jamesonâs private club was thick with the scent of wine, perfume, and sex. Men and women, and people of all genders, writhed together, their bodies slick with desire.
Only Jameson remained stoic and still in the midst of the room, like a lo ne and proud statuette among the masses. No women dared to try their luck with him, knowing how strict and cruel he could be.
No one wanted to lose a limb or vanish without a word from the city.
âI canât attend that dinner on the yach t intwo days, Mr. Jameson.âA heavily drunk young man came over to his side. That young man was the son of an international conglomerateâs CEO.
He continued, âMy father wants me to go on a blind date⦠Burp ⦠Fuck him! When did you last see someone like me marry at such a young age? Maybe only Jasper Beckett, though â¦â
Jameson sipped his wine. âJust donât go.â
âI canât!â the man whined, tugging his tieloose. âMy dateâs some fucking⦠daughter of the most powerful family in Belbanks. I think her name is Alice or something â¦â
Jameson stiffened slightly as a plan formed in his mind. âI have an idea.â
âDo tell!â
Jameson finished his drink, a smile appearing on his lips. âYouâll go to the yach t dinner, and Iâll sit in for your blind date.â
