A day had passed after Betty was subjected to a grueling overnight interrogation by the police. It had been a harsh ordeal for a sheltered young woman like her.
Although they provided her with food and drinks, she wasnât allowed to lie down or sleep, which left her with dark circles under her eyes and a disheveled appearance. Her backside ached from sitting for so long.
The harsh fluorescent light above her head had nearly dried out her hair, which she had spent a lot of money to maintain.
It was truly a torturous experience!
âI didnât. Abigail wasnât a corporate spy. I have nothing to do with it. This is all Alyssaâs plot to frame me.
Iâm innocentâ¦â Despite her fatigue and exhaustion, Betty continued to argue and refused to give in.
At that moment, the door to the interrogation room opened. A confident and good-looking man in a suit entered with a black suitcase in his hand.
The man introduced himself, âGentlemen, I am Betty Beckettâs attorney, Simon Lynch.â
Simon Lynch⦠Attorney Lynch?
Bettyâs eyes brightened.
Simon beamed at her with a reassuring look. âI need to talk with my client.â
Betty followed Simon to another room. Her attorney was the only person she could meet with.
âMr. Lynch, my dad requested you for help, didnât he?â She clutched his hand and started crying. âSave me! I canât stand a minute more of this!â
âMs. Betty, do not worry. I am at least 80% confident in this case if I decide to accept it.â Simon had a gentle tone but a pair of eagle eyes.
He advised, âBut there is one condition-I need your absolute cooperation. Tell me every single detail.
Do not hide a thing from me.â
âOf course!â She nodded furiously, knowing that Simon could definitely save her, given how he had successfully handled Sophiaâs scandal before. So, she told him everything about the incident without reservation.
Simon listened to her quietly.
âMr. Lynch, canât you teach Alyssa Taylor a lesson? Sheâs wicked!â Betty slammed the table in anger and moaned, âI wouldnât have ended up like this if not for that bitch!â
âMs. Betty, she is the plaintiff, which makes her the victim in this case. You should also be aware of her familyâs influence,â Simon pointed out.
A look of doubt crossed his eyes as he continued, âOur opponent is powerful. Ms. Taylor is a ruthless woman. Consider yourself fortunate if you get out of this unscathed. Donât set your hopes too high.â
She felt a twinge of indignation at being schooled. Still, she wasnât in the position to act out, for she needed Simonâs help.
âAs for Abigail Grant, sheâs the one accusing you, and she happens to have a questionable relationship with the head of E! News Daily. This could work in our favor to discredit her as a witness,â Simon explained with a grave look while twirling his pen.
He added, âBryan Hanssen, the suspect, was Abigailâs lover before the incident. This is the key point, our breakthrough in this case.â
âSo, are you saying weâll make Bryan Hanssen the fall guy?â Betty asked in a hushed tone. He gave her a knowing smile.
âBut⦠will he do it? I heard he had a falling out with Abigail.â
