âSilas, let go! Youâre going to suffocate Lyse,â exclaimed Liam.
Then, he hurriedly pried Alyssa from Silasâ grip when he noticed Alyssaâs eyes bulging and her tongue hanging out.
âTsk tsk. How interesting! Iâve only heard of lovers dying for each other, never between a brother and sister!â Cyrus joked and shoved a piece of grilled chicken into his mouth.
Tatiana covered her mouth and snorted. She had always been quiet around her older brothers, but she nearly spat her drink at that moment after hearing Cyrusâ words.
Jonah feared that Tatiana would choke and pat her on the back. He teased, âSilas, stop fooling around with Lyse. Sheâs gone through enough.â
âYou really donât know me, do you? Iâm just concerned about her!â Silas retorted. He refused to let go of Alyssaâs hand despite Liam having taken her away. The family gathering looked more like a telenovela.
âBy the way, did you receive any award for that woman you courageously saved?â Cyrus asked in curiosity.
âI fainted after saving her and falling. I donât recall what happened later,â Alyssa answered with an unbothered shrug. She went on eating the shrimp that Liam peeled for her.
âThey awarded her a gold lifesaving medal,â Jonah chimed in as he gracefully wiped his lips with a napkin.
Everyone was surprised by the update. Alyssa looked up in shock, her mouth stuffed with shrimp.
âHuh?â
âI shared my contact information with Elias Parker from the Park Ranger Corps. He reached out to me and informed me that the female hiker you rescued went to him in a wheelchair, along with her family.
They would like to award you a medal and thank you in person.
âToo bad they had no idea about your name. They kept referring to you as the âkind angel.ââ
âWait, you called Mr. Parker? Wouldnât that-â
*Indeed. He and Mr. Forrest, whom you hold in high regard, now know your identity,â replied Jonah with a disgruntled look.
Jonah continued, âSurprisingly, they werenât overly shocked by the revelation. They did, however, remind me to take good care of you!
âThey mentioned that youâve made substantial donations to Crater Mountain Park. Mr. Parker has safeguarded these contributions in a public trust.
âYou donât have to make any donations because they have enough to last for generations. They appreciate your kindness, and they hope you quit volunteering for the sake of your personal safety.â
âGosh, Jonahâ¦â Alyssa grumbled and set down the shrimp she had been holding.
Jonah sighed helplessly. âLyse, your family background is not meant to be a secret. In fact, we donât want it to remain hidden. Youâre a precious daughter and sister.
âWhile itâs true that some members of the public have now become aware of you, itâs only a matter of time before you have to present yourself to the public, especially when you eventually take over my role.
Itâs time to shift your perspective.â
âEh, Jonah, thatâs odd!â Alyssaâs eyes lit up in excitement. âThe way you put it, it seems like Iâve passed Winstonâs evaluation and am on my way to senior management!â
Alyssa was overwhelmed by joy and had momentarily forgotten the earlier gloominess caused by Jasper.
That would be a watershed moment in her life after a failed marriage and a promotion.
Jonah beamed at her and teased, âI know youâre anxious about the result, but stay calm. When Winstonâs less occupied, he will reveal the final result.â
âUgh, isnât Dad being unnecessarily strict? Itâs our company anyway. He could literally make Lyse work in KS Group by giving out an order!â Cyrus complained while stuffing himself with more grilled chicken.
Jonah, Alyssa, and Tatiana were speechless at Cyrusâ simplified views. Silas coughed and explained, Cyrus, we always assumed that Winston has the final say, but that might not be true.â
âOh? Well, the outcome will still be the same!â Cyrus grinned.
