Jasperâs eyes were red as he took a step forward. His warm and shaky breath brushed against Alyssaâs red nose as he reached out to hug her.
âDonât touch me!â
Suddenly, Alyssa, like a hedgehog with raised spines, stepped back and threw the ice cream she was holding directly onto his shirt.
âLyse, Iâm telling the truth!â
Jasperâs arms hung in the air, torn between wanting to approach her and fearing her resentment. He was in such a tangle that he was on the brink of madness.
Jasper exclaimed, âI called you so many times tonight, but you didnât answer! I thought something had happened to you, and Iâve been worried about you all night!!
Alyssa was startled.
So many times? When did he even call?
Was he making things up?
Alyssa didnât receive any calls.
Jasper was a liar-a liar who didnât even make the effort to craft a believable lie!
âI received photos from an anonymous number. They showed you being embraced by a stranger, entering a hotel together! I was worried for your safety, so I went to the hotel to find you. Thatâs when the scene with the reporters occurred!â
Alyssa looked at him with a mocking expression âJasper, if youâre going to make up an excuse, at least make it believable. If I had known you were going to say these baseless and nonsensical lies, I wouldnât have bothered coming to see you at all.â
âI have proof.â
Jasper gritted his teeth and, with hands shaking from the cold, he pulled out his phone.
Alyssaâs heart raced, her lips pursed. She was giving him the benefit of the doubt.
âThese are the photos I received. Look, isnât the person in these photos.
Suddenly, Jasperâs eyes widened, fixated on the phone screen, repeatedly checking the messages in the The photos sent to him via text messages had all vanished!
He swiped the screen frantically with trembling fingers. His perplexed stare gave the impression it could penetrate the screen, but he couldnât locate the photos serving as evidence Alyssa couldnât believe that the photos had all vanished.
She forced a smile, but her eyes lacked any hint of amusement. She spoke coldly, sending a chill through Jasperâs heart. âJasper, if you havenât thought of a good reason or excuse, thereâs really no need to rush to see me âI didnât want to see you before, and I donât want to see you now or in the future.â
As Jasper watched her walk past him, Jasper felt as if he had fallen into an icy abyss.
âLyse! Lyse, donât go!â
He was about to stop her when another voice said, âLyse.â
Alyssa looked up and saw Jameson standing a few steps away. He was still wearing a patientâs gown, covered only by a sheepskin coat. His face was paler than the snow.
*Jimmy! Why did you leave the hospital? Donât you realize youâre still injured?â
Alyssa rushed to Jamesonâs side, looking displeased. âHow did you come here? How did you know I was here?â
âAfter you left the hospital, I couldnât stop worrying, so I had someone follow you. But donât get me wrong. Iâm not stalking you. I just want to protect you.â
As he spoke, Jameson weakly breathed and expressed concern, âHow could I let you, a girl, go out alone so late at night? Thatâs against my conscience.â
Jasperâs features adopted a chilly demeanor, and his gaze became as cutting as a knife. It was as if he wanted to tear Jameson apart!
âLetâs go back. Itâs too cold outside.â
Alyssa helped him. She was ready to leave.
âWas it you, Jameson?â
The manâs voice, sharp as a blade, cut through, deep and magnetic, hoarse with a hint of anger.
âMr. Beckett, you had an affair with Zoe Harper, and the paparazzi captured your hotel rendezvous How Jameson couldnât help but laugh, his eyes filled with mockery. âIsnât this a case of mutual affection between you two?â
