Jasper casually placed his left hand in his pocket on the white marble-carved spiral staircase. His tailored gray suit outlined his figure as he descended the stairs elegantly.
Zoe stared at his handsome face and forgot to cry, half-opening her mouth in astonishment.
Jasper was truly the fantasy of all women.
Zoe was willing to lose her dignity and shame just to cling to him. She felt that she didnât make the wrong move.
No matter what, she must obtain him.
âMr. Jasper, what do you mean by that? You bullied my granddaughter, but now it has become her fault?â Corneliusâs gaze was sharp as he questioned coldly.
Jasper smirked. âYouâve understood. Thereâs no need for me to repeat it and embarrass your granddaughter again, donât you think?â
His words left everyone in shock.
What did he mean by that?
Did something happen during that night they spent together?
Instantly, Zoeâs face turned pale. She hid in Corneliusâs arms and bit her lip, afraid to make a sound.
âY-You!â
Being of an old age, Cornelius was almost out of breath from Jasperâs words. His face turned red.
âJasper! What nonsense are you talking about? You canât act recklessly in front of the elders!â Javier quickly scolded. But in his heart, he started to have doubts.
âAct recklessly?â
Despite Jasperâs smile, his eyes held an intimidating gaze. âI was merely stating facts. Ms. Zoe, do you dare to make a solemn oath to God?â
A chill ran through Zoeâs body, and her heart nearly leaped out of her chest.
âDo you dare to swear that you knew nothing about what happened in the hotel that night and were completely innocent? Do you dare to swear to God?â
Jasperâs eyes were as deep as an abyss as he stared at her, like a police officer scrutinizing a heinous â⦠â¦â
I Zoe darted her eyes around, trying to look innocent. âJasper, why are you saying that? Swear? Why should I swear? Didnât you ask me to meet you at the hotel that night?â
At her words, Jasperâs eyes contracted sharply.
He thought Zoe would quibble. But he didnât expect her to dare to make up lies.
âWe agreed to meet in room 205. I arrived first and waited for you, but you didnât show up. So I thought Iâd take a bath while waiting for you.
âI didnât expect that as soon as I finished bathing, you came. Isnât that what happened that night?â
Zoeâs eyelashes were wet with tears, and her eyes were red-rimmed and swollen. Everything she said seemed so real.
âJasper, I donât know what happened in the middle that made you unwilling to admit what happened that night. But no matter what you say, I wonât blame you.
âIf you want me to make an oath, I will!â
As Zoe spoke, she clenched her teeth and raised three fingers. âI, Zoe Harper, swear to God that everything I said that night was true. Otherwise, I would get hit by a car and die miserably!â 1 Zoe considered the idea of solemnly swearing to God as absurd.
Did God even exist in this world?
Zoe didnât believe in hell or karma.
She only knew that, as long as it was something she wanted, she would get it no matter the dirty tricks she needed to use.
