Victor eventually arranged for Jameson to take Alyssa home.
Jasper pushed Newtonâs wheelchair toward the parking lot, with Zoe trailing behind like an annoying tag- along.
âHow long do you plan to keep following me?â Jasper suddenly stopped. He did not bother to look back while he asked.
Zoe was taken by surprise. She almost collided with Jasper and stumbled awkwardly.
âJa-Jasper, I want to accompany you in taking Grandpa home.â
Zoe tried to look pitiful and said, âGrandpa just got discharged from the hospital. There must be a lot to take care of. I want to help youâ¦â
âHelp? What can you do?â Jasper asked bluntly.
Zoe couldnât find any words to respond.
âIâve watched you grow up. Iâve seen how Mrs. Harper and your brother protect you. Your hands havenât even touched a speck of dirt. What can you do?â Jasper retorted without sparing her any dignity.
âJasper, I â¦â
âThink about what Grandpa needs. You know it in your heart.â
Jasper thought of Alyssa. His heart was tightening, and he lowered his gaze.
âIf you have that intention, go back and take care of Mr. Cornelius.â
With that, he pushed Newton away.
Zoe stood alone, her face turning red with frustration as the wind tousled her hair.
The driver piloted the car home, with Benjamin as the escort, while Jasper occupied the back seat alongside his grandfather.
The carâs interior exuded warmth, yet Newtonâs cold expression rendered it akin to an ice cellar.
Jasper knew his grandfather was angry. Yet, the divorce between him and Alyssa persisted as a reality, and their entrenched disagreements remained unsolvable-another undeniable fact.
Despite pouring his heart into pursuing her and risking his life, he found it impossible to earn even a modicum of trust from her.
While he was unafraid of making one-sided sacrifices, the absence of trust from her troubled him deeply.
Upon reaching the villa in Crescent Bay, Jasper alighted from the car and aided Ben in readying the wheelchair. He intended to assist Newton in settling into the wheelchair.
âI wonât use a wheelchair. Iâm not disabled. Why should I use a wheelchair?â Newton impatiently pulled Jasper aside and instructed Ben, âBen, get my cane.â
Soon, Ben brought the cane over.
Newton took the cane, tightly pressed his lips together, and swung his arm at Jasperâs back without uttering a word!
Newtonâs sudden action startled Ben so much that he was left speechless.
A resounding thud echoed as Jasper winced, feeling a dull ache spread across his back, and he furrowed his brow.
âYou ungrateful brat! What has gotten into you? Why are you still alive? Just die!â
Newton was consumed by anger. Unable to contain his rage, he swung his cane at Jasper once more.
âShe is such a good girl, and you had to ruin the marriage. Why did you say those things? Why did you push her away? Is your brain clogged with shit?â
In the cold moonlight, Jasperâs handsome face took on a particularly icy and lonely appearance. He gritted his teeth, enduring his grandfatherâs harsh reprimands.
âAre you blind? Canât you see how much the Schmidt guy cares about Alice? Canât you see theyâre growing close? Canât you see Victor wants Alice as his daughter-in-law?â
Newton barraged him with rhetorical questions, teetering on the brink of erupting into expletives.
âYour connection with that girl from the Harper family is ambiguous. Even if youâre innocent, you should go all out to explain to Alice to prove your sincerity!â
