After replying to Newtonâs question, Jasper moved to stand next to Alyssa. He stared at her quietly.
He could still see tear tracks on her pretty face. Her hair covered half of her face, making her look even more pitiful and frail.
Alyssa blushed in embarrassment:
Another teardrop dripped off her eyelashes at that moment.
Jasperâs focus was now on Alyssaâs eyelashes. He could feel his chest heaving slightly as he stared at her eyelashes in a daze.
âHurry up and apologize to your wife, you st* pid brat!â Newton urged angrily.
âWhy do I have to apologize to her? I didnât make her cry.â Jasper frowned in confusion.
Newton widened his eyes furiously. âAliceâs your wife, damn it! Are you expecting me to comfort your own wife? Are you that st* pid?â
âGrandpa, Jasper and I are already divorced, so Iâm not his-â
âI donât care! He never did anything for you during your threeâyear marriage! He owes you that apology from the start!â
Newtonâs expression darkened when he heard the word âdivorce.â A look of frustration and pain soon took over his features.
âJasper, if you donât apologize to Alice right now, Iâll disown you!â
Jasper pursed his lips tightly for a short while. Finally, he said softly, âSorry.â
Alyssa widened her red and puffy eyes in response. She could feel her heart hammering inside her.
For the first time ever, Jasper actually apologized to her.
It was a shame that he didnât mean what he said.
âThis time, I want you to perform a gentlemanâs bow in front of Alice while apologizing to her!â
Newton demanded âIs that really necessary?â Jasper could feel a wave of irritation washing over him.
âYou should count your lucky stars that I didnât force you to prostrate! I used to do the same thing to your grandmother back in the day!
âAlice is my beloved granddaughterâinâlaw, so youâd better apologize sincerely! Now hurry up!â
Jasper had no choice but to comply with his grandfatherâs wishes. He took half a step backward with his hands firmly placed by his sides. Then, he leaned forward and dipped his head slightly to perform the perfect gentlemanâs bow.
âIâm truly sorry, Ms. White. Iâm the one at fault.â
Newton couldnât help but smirk when he witnessed Jasperâs antics. At that moment, he wished that Jasper and Alyssa could become a couple again.
Meanwhile, Alyssaâs sobs started to calm down. But her cheeks were still flushed. The sight of Jasper being a chivalrous gentleman amused her greatly.
It didnât matter if Jasperâs apology was sincere or fake. The fact that he lowered his head in front of Alyssa pleased her to no end.
Just as Jasper was about to straighten up, Newton issued his next order. âYouâd better stay in that position until Alice says so! Youâre only allowed to straighten up once she gives the order!â
A few seconds passed since then, but Alyssa didnât say anything.
Jasper knew that she was doing it on purpose.
Alyssa finally sniffled loudly when she noticed how impatient and frustrated Jasper looked. She spoke up in a soft tone after that.
âGrandpa, Jasper has nothing to do with me crying from the start. Please donât blame him.â
Jasper scowled in response. Alice was definitely a cunning woman.
Still, his anger dissipated when he saw how puffy her eyes were.
When it was time for dinner, Alyssa wheeled Newton into the dining room. Jasper walked next to them.
A delicious feast took up every inch of the table. Obviously, Newton had prepared such a grand dinner for Alyssa.
The moment they took their seats, Xavier rushed into the dining room with a conflicted look. He stopped next to Jasper. He wanted to lean and whisper something into his ear.
âJust spit it out.â Newton hated it the most whenever people whispered in front of him.
He continued seriously, âWeâre all family here. Thereâs no need to hide things from each other, especially when youâre in my house right now.â
âUm, wellâ¦â Xavier turned to look at Jasper. Clearly, he looked torn.
âItâs fine,â the latter ordered calmly.
âYes, sir.â
Xavier took a deep breath before explaining, âI received a phone call from Madam Sophia. She heard youâre spending time with Mr. Beckett, so she didnât dare disturb you. Thatâs why she contacted me and asked me to pass a message to Mr. Beckett.â
âHmph! At least sheâs sensible!â Newtonâs expression darkened whenever Sophia was mentioned.
âMadam Sophia said that Ms. Gardnerâs diagnosis results are out. It turns out that sheâs diagnosed with severe depression.â
